I'm about to buy some of these GHD hair straightner things for 'er indoors, however I've read reports that they have a habit of catching fire. Obviously I'd like to avoid any sort of combustion incident.

Can anyone offer up any actual ownership experiences regarding fire?

I should make it clear, this thread is also open to the more metrosexual males amongst us, I would hate to discriminate.

Why the fook do I find it so hard to resist going FiRST to a thread that reads 'something for the ladies?' :-)

What the fook do I expect to find?
'Oh hi girls, this is Ivana, your blonde friend- you know the one who has slept with all the other girls? I was wondering if you girls could recommend a vibrator for me. '

No.

Instead, the reality is some stuff about hair.

Female PH'ers are welcome to advise on this subject while they're at it. Pun intended

I always assume that it's something for those with hairdressers cars, you know: Griffs and Tuscans. Never disappointed yet.

Just to be sensible for a change, GHD's did have a name for catching fire, but the new ones have been changed and no longer have that risk attatched.

If you want something equally good there are Mark Hill ones, sold at Boots. Or the Wet2Straight range are very good.

Thanks. She's been bleating on about GHDs for ages now, they're not as expensive as I thought.

This thread is now about battery powered knicker ticklers.

I have had my GHD's for a couple of years now, no sign of them catching fire.

I bought one for my wife a few weeks ago. No problems with it and she absolutely loves it.

If I may hazard a guess, I'd say all to do with freakishly tall wimmin, if the cable length is just long enough to receive a good tug (stoppit!) when used whilst standing, or wearing heels, or standing on a ladder, this could cause the wires to pull out and short.
Of course I don't know this, I don't need, use or want for a pair of hair straightners, it's just an opinion I've fostered from talking to wimmin(or rather sitting in the corner playing with the dog while they talk) about the hidden menace in your bedroom.

So the moral of this story ladies, don't yank it too hard or it'll catch fire.

They are an awesome bit of kit, never had any fires, handles don't get warm, just be careful with the business end, as that gets really hot.

Now stop it, you!
