A nice cheery subject for Friday.

What are you going for? Or indeed, which did you have at your funeral if its already been and gone?

Come on now, its gonna happen so you best make up your mind...

Cremation without a doubt - no chance of there being a mistake and you NOT being dead then!

The Undertaker Sketch

Undertaker: Morning.
Man: Good morning.
Undertaker: What can I do for you, squire?
Man: Well, I wonder if you can help me. You see, my mother has just died.
Undertaker: Ah well, we can help you. We deal with stiffs.
Man: What?
Undertaker: Well, there's three things we can do with your mum. We can bury her, burn her, or dump her.
Man: (shocked) Dump her?
Undertaker: Dump her in the Thames.
Man: What?
Undertaker: Oh, did you like her?
Man: Yes!
Undertaker: oh well, we won't dump her then. Well, what do you think? We can bury her or burn her.
Man: Well, which do you recommend?
Undertaker: Well, they're both nasty. If we burn her she gets stuffed in the flames... crackle crackle crackle... which is a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead, but quick. And then we give you a handful of ashes, which you can pretend were hers.
Man: Oh.
Undertaker: Or if we bury her, she gets eaten up by lots of weevils and nasty maggots, which as I said before is a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead.
Man: I see. Well, she's definitely dead.
Undertaker: Where is she?
Man: She's in this sack.
Undertaker: Can I have a look? She looks quite young.
Man: Yes, yes, she was.
Undertaker: (calling) Fred!
Fred's Voice: Yeah?
Undertaker: I think we've got an eater.
Man: What?!?
Fred: (peeking head round the door) Right, I'll get the oven on.(goes off)
Man: Er, excuse me, um.... are you suggesting eating my mother?
Undertaker: Er... yeah, not raw. Cooked.
Man: What?
Undertaker: Yes, roasted with a few french fries, broccoli, horseradish sauce...
Man: Well, I do feel a bit peckish.
Undertaker: Great!
Man: Can we have some parsnips?
Undertaker: (calling) Fred... get some parsnips.
Man: I really don't think I should.
Undertaker: Look, tell you what.... we'll eat her, if you feel a bit guilty about it after, we can dig a grave and you can throw up in it.

Sorry

Cremate me, send the remains of to those nice chaps who extract the carbon and turn them into artificial diamonds, engraved with my epitaph.

Bin bag on the local tip'll do me, can't see any point in wasting money on it, 'cause I expect to be past caring.

Space for me. In a rocket: 3-2-1 gone. Nice and handy, I will actually be up there when the kids look up for inspiration and there'll always be space.

I don't know which to do -

I've always been in favour of burial, to be at one with the earth. lentil boy

But I'm thinking maybe cremation is the way to go. I just don't like excessive heat. I quite fancy having my ashes scattered round Oulton Park or something like that.

The driver of our dragster has expressed that he wants to be cremated and have some of his ashes placed in the parachute of a top fuel dragster...

I'd like to be buried in a biodegradable coffin somewhere and a tree planted on me. Seems a waste of good compost to use a graveyard, and people could visit my tree to remember me.

I know it sounds a bit lentilist, but I got the idea from Frank Herbert's DUNE books - it's how the Bene Gesserit bury their members. Live like a geek, be buried like a geek, I say.

Yeah, you're far better living a second life as a corpse with maggots growing out of your scrotum.

I am with johnRB on this one,

seems a way to stop people building houses on forests (the bodies make it hard)

Be a great place for kids to play (the haunted forest) not enough places left like that theses days.

Burn baby burn....

Never been big "stick-em-in-the-ground" lot my family. Equally we dont keep each other in vases on the mantlepiece either. Just a tasteful ceremony, bit of a boozy evening and carry on. Might not be the best way of doing things, but currently working for 3 generations of my family.....

Mind you, wife wants to be buried.... not sure if thats going to happen - but dont intend to find out though....

I want to be dissolved in a vat of lentil juice and then buried in a coffin recycled from old sandals and copies of the Guardian.
