OMG, do they do geography in American schools? Quite shocking that none of them had any objections to invading other countries for the sake of it (they might have been editted out).

You do realise that the people in that video are the 1% of respondants who were basically, stupid? And that the other 99% who answered sensibly weren't included in the video?

You say this but I have visited and been to the states (all over the west side). I found it quite eye opening how USA blinkered they were. Except for a couple of people we met.

Now don’t get me wrong, 99% were exceptionally nice and went out of there way to help..etc

This is just my opinion and I don’t mean to offend.

Thanks. How many British could point out a particular of the 50 states on the spot? Since most states are similar in size to European countries, I believe it is of near-equal importance. What do you think?

(Being Mr Average) I could point most out or at least have an idea.

I think the important thing to remember is that if you’re going to invade or threaten other places on the planet you should probably know where they are

Besides you could be in the 0.1% !!!

Really ? - I think you have just proven how stupid and narrow minded YOU are - do you therefore represent the typical Brit ?- have you even been to America or have any American friends ?

1) Seeing as we did invade, we obviously knew right where they were

2) Unfortunately,I am 99.9% sure I am not; thanks for the thought

It does seem that when you go to U.S. you realize the average American is just as intelligent as citizens/subjects of any other nation. Unfortunately it seems with American culture (as with many cultures now it could be said) the most intelligent people are often also the most reserved and least outspoken. Combine that with the media’s budget to go trawling the streets to get interviews that fit the stereotypes and rapidly you get people around the world (notably those who are most outspoken, see above comments) leveling undue criticism.

I notice when they go looking for these mocking street interviews they rarely go to a big student city like Madison, Wisconsin or somewhere else you would be likely to find an educated community.

Last time this was posted some one said something like “I think I could do in a British high street and get similar responses”, I believe this is absolutely true.

Having said that Fox “news” .

I have been to America many times, both on business and on my hols, I do have American friends and unfortunately even they generally tend to agree that the majority of your country folk are geographically retarded.
With reference to the fore mentioned video clip, by now I would imagine there are one or two worried Aussies, and even a few relieved West Indian Cricketers!

Btw, Australia is the big island with all the flags stuck in it.

ps, cricket is a game we play with a bat and a ball, not that girlie "rounders" variant you play....world series

Hmmn. Jimbeaux, whilst I would never have put it the Cooky did I can follow on from his comment. 99.9% of we humans covering the entire planet are pretty stupid in one respect or another.

World, or even US, Geography is one of those things most of us can get along in our daily lives without needing much of a handle on. Sadly. If you asked the average British Chav where any of the US States were they'd have no idea. There again - its hardly very important to them as they will never travel there and the US is a politically stable country that is very, very unlikely ever to require British troops to ever go there again on anything other than joint training exercises!

Similarly if you asked me (tertiary education etc) which country should be next on the shit list I'd say Zimbabwe. Because I understand the costs of conflict I am not yet persuaded that any kind of military intervention should take place but I am very, very concerned about the political situation there. Could I put a pin in a map? I know its in Africa and I'm pretty sure I could place a pin *ish* in the area - but any citizen of any African country would kill themselves laughing and then shake their head in a worried fashion about how I'd stuck that pin in the Democratic Republic of Bongo Bongo instead of in the right place.

1) The people they were interviewing weren't exactly the educated cream of American Society
2) I'll bet they couldn't have put a pin in a map and got the locations of Houston, Seattle, Chicago and New York right either.
3) They're not alone. How many Brits could get four African nations right on a blank map of the big continent.
4) Ask a Brit to stick a pin in a map of the UK with accuracy to a hundred miles of where Basingstoke, Abergavenny, Sheffield and Perth and chances are they'll screw it up too.
5) Ask people of any EU nation who should be next on the shit list and very few will come up with the answer - "No-one". And what they'll be basing it on is the same utter shite those American interviewees were.

We were in Orlando in 1997.
Went into a local mini mart to get some drinks & the couple behind the counter got chatting to us.
Nice enough people but . . .

Asked where we were from, we replied London.
Their response was 'you mean there are coloured people in London ?'

Nooo. Really?

When I lived in the US I finally learned a kind of mid-Atlantic accent that meant I could get on with daily life without being asked "where are you from?" all the time. Prior to that I would have long conversations in order to buy almost anything from a store - unless they knew me (I became reasonably well known locally as "The Brit" as you can imagine).

So when I was asked "Are You English?" I took great amusement in replying "No!" (as it is the truth - I'm actually Welsh). Oh the sublime confusion it used to cause - excellent entertainment... Almost as good as "I'm an aborigne. Of Wales. Or even: I'm Celtic."

A friend of mine out there used to cause even more entertainment. His racial extraction is Asian. But he has the broadest Scots accent you can believe. Cue yet more entertainment.

To be fair, I saw a similar thing asking British Uni students where the major cities are in Britain and there were educated people suggesting Newcastle was Plymouth, Liverpool in Bristol and London in Birmingham

The way I see it is that even though there may be a plethora of goegraphically challenged Americans in America, they are several thousand miles away from me. But just round the corner is an ever bulging mess of chavvy dumb-f***ks who think it is fine to trash the town centre every Friday night while bladdered on Stella. Then there's yesterday's paedophile who's case was thrown out on a pathetic technicality, a government that wants to increase local taxes depending on the quality of the view from your house and a basic English community spirit that says if you work hard for what you've got then an underprivileged person has the right to steal or vandalise it without you resisting his advances.

We have enough English stuff to moan about without moaning about Americans

You have a point there

In Britain if you kill some burglar in your own home they send you to jail. In America if you blew that SOB away they would pat you on the back.

Which is the stupid nation?
