No…wasn’t there a similar thread about some meteorologist predicting –18 degrees for Christmas?

Met Office have forecast this and other long range weather forecasters, also temps down to minus 18 degress!

Apparently, we are going to have the longest and coldest winter on record.

We have had extremely mild winters in the last 10 years.

I think I am right in saying the coldest temperature EVER recorded in the UK since records began has only been -11c or thereabouts......

Correct and that's why at -18 it will be the coldest on record

Not quite, the numpties will be in ditches and parked up on roundabouts like they are every time it snows - pillocks.

Ah so that's how the man who drives the snow plough gets to his work in the morning....I've worried about that for years...

Wacky Racer - total nonsense. In February 1987, here at Farnborough, the temperature dropped one night to Minus 15 degrees C. And that wasn't the coldest temperature overall during that particular cold spell.

I have no faith in long range weather predictions. However, if we do get a "colder" snap, so what, Winters for the past few years have been milder than what was once considered normal. A "proper" winter has been on the cards for a while. I actually think that the reason they are saying we should expect a cold winter is simply because we haven't had one for a while.

Met office says - hardly unequivocal, might be warmer in Scotland and Northern Ireland, often is if it's colder down south, yadda yadda, I'll believe it if I see it.

There is also an indication for a drier-than-average winter over much of the UK.

We only seem to get severe weather warnings when it's likely to happen in the south east.... The north is under 5 feet of snow and there's 10 seconds report at the end of the news. The south east sees a single flurry and Kate Adie gets dispatched to the "worst affected areas". Cue scenes of numpties stuck in half an inch of slush or dopey women tottering through the afore mentioned slush in heels....

We'll get a week of cold weather followed by a bit of variability and then next march there will be a thread asking whatever happened to the coldest winter on record thread.....
