Ring sizes

Looking to get a ring for my girlfriend as a birthday suprise. Haven't got a clue what size she is

Obviously I can take it back and exchange it after I've given it to her if it doesen't fit but it would be nice to be right first time...

Any ideas? whats the average ring size for say and 18-25 year old?

On a serious note, has she got another ring for that finger that you could secretly "borrow" to get the same size? Or maybe ask a friend/mum who knows her well. Don't think there is an "average" size finger as it depends on knuckles too.
