Got back from my cycle home from work today and decided my bike needed a bit of maintenance as it wasn't shifting gears as well as it should. It was a bit dirty, so before I started adjusting things, I popped off to the local jet wash to give it a bit of a clean. Jet wash was out of order, so I was a bit stuck and I needed to sort the bike out before I cycled home again (the route is about 17 miles door-to-door so I can't really just put up with problems, due to the distance), so....

Well I thought it was a perfectly normal and practical solution, but judging by the bollocking I've just got off my wife, I don't think she agrees. So she gets home from work and finds a mountain bike in the bath, with the bath full of crud and mud and me sitting on the sofa with my feet up, but is that so bad? I explained I was just letting it dry before I took it back outside and I would clean the bathroom until it was the cleanest she'd ever seen it, but she still thinks I've committed a sin worse than adultery. So is it really that bad to clean my bike in the bath? Women just don't understand a bit of lateral thinking sometimes...

If you've already had the worst, you may as well go out and get laid tonight.

...well, it might have helped if she hadn't been taking a bath at the time

I have to admit to cleaning my mtn bike in the bath - whats the problem ? - no real difference to having a bath after a game of Rugby.

Sounds like she needs to calm down.

Sprucing up certain rooms in the house might help her settle her nerves... and know her place...

If I can get away with using the dishwasher for cleaning engine parts, then you ought to be able to get away with cleaning your bike in the bath.

Cheers

Get it all looking sparkly (and the rest of the house too) whilst she calms down, then do/get something nice for her by way of apology (massage/chocs/flowers/whatever might put a smile on her face)

Thanks for all the 'knowing her place' style replies, I'll show them to her as support for my case. She's calmed down now, just think she was a bit shocked finding my bike in the bath with me not really doing much about it (lets just say I tend to take my time with things, so any fears that the bike/bath situation might be a bit more long-term than necessary might possibly be justified, going by my previous record). I agree it's no worse than showering after a game of rugby, but oddly she complained when after a particularly mucky ride I got in the shower fully kitted up and undressed in there. She's a very tidy person and often despairs at my ability to leave a trail of mess everywhere I go.

Just going to take it back outside now, will pick up some chocolates and a bottle of wine on the test ride...

My wife has let it be known that, once we have moved from our flat into a house, if she doesn't come home to find me with an engine in bits on the kitchen table at least once she will be extremely disappointed!

Dad used to go fishing and bring back loads of live eels, Mum used to empty them into the bath until she was ready to chop their heads off.

Many moons ago living in pompey, wife went home to Folkestone by train, weather was awful, so I decided to go by train as well, to keep the BSA 650 nice and clean, I put it behind the settee in the front room, she didnt like that either, women just dont understand these kind of things do they?

I remember an artical about using a certain paint on an engine part that needs to be heated in order to cure properly. They recomended waiting until the wife was out and putting it in the oven at gas mark something or other.
