Which DVD player?

Anyone know anything about DVD players? Going to buy the old man one for his birthday. Basically, want one that will play/record DVS's form anywhere (not region restricted) and is gonna be simple enough for a wally to use?! Also, how much should I expect to pay for such an item?!

We got a Pacific (I think) from ASDA for £20, a quick google for the unlock code and it will play everything, all regions, market copies etc. Got it for the in laws in Malta and if they can use it it must be pretty easy. Tested it before we sent it and the quality was very good for the price. I think the supermarkets are now doing recorders for about £70 but never used one.
