Two things happended today

i) I woke up cold, outside was even colder, my car was cold, I was cold, it is definitely cold. Mr 2 does NOT like ice so I will almost certaily slide through a hedge if this carries on.

ii) I had a phone call about some work, 6 months worth. In the Carribean. It I believe I can state with some certainty is warm their. Alot warmer than here, and they don't pay any income tax or capital gains.

So world of PH, has anybody been to/ worked over in the Carrib? What's it like? Would you recommend it? I'm defnitely up for a bit of work overseas, and want it to be somewhere nice, recently I've also been approached seperatelty about work in Tokyo or Singpaore, so this would be quite different.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

So what's the climate like? Seriously? Wet and windy? I was imagining an office backing onto a golden sandy beach, my PA would be a dusky maiden wearing a grass skirt....every day blue skies etc.

Where in the Carribbean exactly? The climate is definitely warmer than it is here. If you're there outside of the hurricane season, it'll probably be drier too.

Slightly off topic, try saying "beer can" out loud without sounding like a Jamaican saying "bacon".

Go on, try it.

It's a beautiful country (Jamaica), but you'll probably get shot and die.

Lady at work left as her husband got a job in the Cayman islands with a large accountancy firm. She was gonna spend the first 6 months/year being a housewife and sorting things out before looking for work (she too was an accountant). They were back after 4 months....Just couldn't settle.
I was talking to a diving instructor in the maldives once.... I said that he must have the best job in the world, but his reply was that he missed the simple things in life...Like driving his car, going to the pictures, being in a busy pub etc, etc.....

I bet it's not all a bed of roses, just seems like it this time of year!!
Good luck though, in whatever you decide!!

top city! Visited there last year for a few days and went away loving the place. Granted, I was only a tourist, so I can't comment on what it's like to live and work there, but if I was to go overseas and work for 6months/1year, that would be the place I'd like to go. It's a shining example to the rest of the world on how different cultures can live together peacefully. Damn humid though!

I've worked in Belize a couple of times (4 and 7 Months respectively).

I would happily sell everything to go and run a bar or something out there. The weather, even in Hurricane season is great, although not when the Hurricane actually comes!!!! When it does rain it's warm and everything is dry half an hour later.

The best thing about it all is that they mainly speak English, of sorts, so you're straight in and working!

If only Mrs Swin would see ........

" Womens Institute"

Well I took my family to The Bahamas a fortnight ago for a week. The idea was that we'd look at properties, with a view to moving there - for tax / climate reasons!

We arrived on the Sunday and hurricane Wilma arrived on the Monday! So that was that. My missus put her foot down so we ain't moving there! Talk about bad timing!

We went to the Bahamas last year. Found the quality of the building work was way way way below a standard I'd accept. Some stuff looked like Stevie Wonder built it. Of course maybe some ultra posh stuff is better. Overall though, Barbados was 1000% times better, even the affordable houses - not just the Shandy Lane poncy crap.

Crane Beach perchance? Lovely jubly. We considered buying a timeshare at the Crane, but bought one on Hawaii instead (and we're going on 17th Dec ... yee hah).

I think Cliff's house is just a hundred metres along from where you're say, so watch out for Billy Liar.

My dear old Grandad lives about five minutes from there. Have quite a few fond memories of that very beach. Awesome (but friendly) waves, much more refreshing in the water than at the Yacht Club.
