You know the spaces you get at supermarkets for people with small children. Extra wide spaces to help get pushchairs and babies out of car seats.

Is there a presumed age limit ie once a child gets to a certain age then they should use a normal space. Its just that I went to a supermarket on sunday and a mother with what looked like a 10 year old boy were using a mother and baby space.

Does this mean that if I (34year old) go to the supermarket with my mum I can use those spaces

IIRC some of the supermarkets have schemes you need to sign up to and you get a badge...

Not quite though I like the thought.
In theory you should only park in them for as long as you need to lift a child into their own car seat and strap them in.
However many many people ignore this.

I've seen people without kids using those spaces. Not sure if they can enforce proper use TBH, unlike disabled spaces where you do need a permit (but that doesn't exactly stop non-disabled people parking there either)

Thought that myself occassionally..... since it seems that middle-aged men with what they consider to be a "sports car" completely disregard the markings on the road I think its fair game..... go for it.

Personally, I will park in the corner of my local supermarket. Not only can I get a space, my children can have a short walk and I can get my shopping in and out of my car in peace - usually without people parking next to me!

They're for pre-school children in push chairs or stage 0/1 car seats.

Anyone who's tried to put a young child into one of these seats when the door will only open 6" to the car next door will understand the need for them.

People who uses these spaces without suitable aged children are just plain ignorant.

(Edited to removed references to wilful vandalism and crap grammar)

I really hope you are joking.

Any woman can use them if they follow
this guide:

Park in the space. When the busybody
approaches, saying "you need a child to
park in that space," all you need to say,
bursting into tears, is: "sorry, sometimes
I forget he's really gone."

Que busybody leaving, full of guilt!

Can you remember what happened the last time someone suggested willful vandalism on here? Does the individual still post?

I think there should be a time limit on them being Mother an Baby spaces. Say between 9 and 6pm. After that they need to be restricted ot people with nice cars who don't want the chav who parks next to you opening their door into you

Why just mother and child? I use these spaces and woe betide any tt who tells me that I can't. If I've got my 2 year old with me then why shouldn't I? Just because I'm a man it doesn't make it any easier to post the kid into the seat through a 6 inch slot without banging his head on the door aperture. What's more, it really p1sses me off when I see the "it's a mother and child seat space" type of women, lazy fat cows that they are, they could do with the exercise!

Threw the VX in one in a rush the other day.

Woman in an X5 to the right of me lowered her passenger window as I got out and mumbled something about 'these spaces being for people with children' or whathaveyou.

With great glee I went around to the passenger side and extracted my daughter from her car seat...

Had a similar thing with Disabled Parking, (no gags please)

When I take my old man out in the Aston we always park in Disabled spaces, when available. He has a blue dissability badge and people can't believe seeing it in the Aston windscreen.

Once or twice he's left it in there by mistake.... rude not too.
I just walk away from the car with a limp.

I can see more point to parent and child spaces that disabled spaces... All too often I see a blue badge holder drive up, get out of the car, and spritely walk off for a half hour wander round the supermarket... If they can walk, then they don't need a fecking blue badge... Seems any person with any ailment can get a blue badge. Of course, this is a seperate issue to the if you can drive a car, and get around a supermarket in your wheelchair, or what have you, do you really need to have a special parking place 10 feet from the door? The same with the shopping precinct car parks.. they have disabled spaces. If you can meander around a shopping precinct, surely you have to mobility to park where ever. Disabl;ed places should be for wheelchair users only, as they need to get to their chair...others can fecking well walk...
