Does anyone know how much of the tax is on say a £5 packet of cigarettes?

And how does it break down - is it like petrol where one tax is taxed again by VAT?

It can be up to 85% of the product cost apparently, You have just done you GCSE’s so you should be able to take it from there.

BTW yes cigarettes are subject to VAT and duty tax.

Simple economics. Buying 3200 cigarettes in Portugal saved me £360. The holiday only cost £260. So, not only did Gordon give me a free holiday, he bundled £100 spending money in too

Have anyone any idea how much the chancellors current taxation structure has cost him in lost revenue? Last time I bought ciggies in the UK was about four years ago.

Probably Billions. Means Customs & Excise are reverting to their old heavy-handed tactics from the 1700's as well as Encouraging smugglers.
