Letters in local rag...
Discussion
Who are these people that write in to the local rag... There is one this week that reads...
"further to a meeting against the phone mast hidden within a church on Seabank Road, a concerned citizen has parked a car outside the church with the words 'Phone masts kill children' and 'there is a hidden phone mast within the church' daubed on the side... Well done to him"
WTF! I was ecpecting a sensible comment at the end. Phone masts kill children? Where th feck did they get that from? The thing that winds me up about these people is that no doubt they all have mobile phones, and they will use them, whenever they need to. They obviously have no problem with having a phonme mast in someone elses back yard, but not their own.
Are they just pleased that someone has taken the step, despite there being no evidence at all that phone masts kill anyone, never mind children? These nimby's do my friggin nut in! The lot of them should be tied to said phone mast, and let sizzle in their own juices, seeing as it is so dangerous, and all that... Did anyone see the report of the phone mast that went up, and then everyone within a certain distance all said they could not sleep, headaches, etc.. they formed a nice group, (before consulting the comp0any), and made petitions, and lobbied their MP, and they got a response from the phone company...The phone mast was not active, and wouldn't be for another few months! I'm sure a lot of these things are psychological, and suggested to them by enviromentals, etc...

whats also sad is that the church gets money from the company to put the mast in, and the vast majority of churches are not huge profit centres far from it. the money from the phone company probably outweighs the weekly tithe.

There was a program around election time which basically showed that most letters sent to local rags are first written in Labour central office, and then syndicated out...
Yes it's euthanistically called "asro turfing" i.e. creating an artificial impression of pro labour grass roots in an area.

Exactly the same thing going on in Leighton at the moment, headline news in the local newspapers is the NIMBYs complaining at phone masts....
yup... I have no problem with them complaining, if truth be told, but it is the whole NIMBY side of things that winds the feck out of me. the same as people who don't want a car park, yet own 3 cars, and are quite happy parking in someone elses neighbourhood. The mobile phone users who whinge about phone masts, and the people who petition for speed humps in their road, yet speed elsewhere... All hypocrits, and all the dregs of society, who seem to think thast they are more important than others.

The Nimby Party also know as the Liberal Democrats

Some classic rhetoric here.

really? bloody hell. that is a bit unsporting isn't it..
Letters in local rags are hilarious. I get the idea that they're written by the sort of people who ring up radio phone-in shows and, in an indecipherable accent, try and explain why we should bring back the death penalty.
I cringe at the ones we get round here. Inevitably there will be at least one or two anti-car ones which will be as bigoted as Stalin (usually comparing motorists to smokers), and you can tell if the letters editor is a lentilist depending on the letter chosen to back up the motorists point of view. If it's along the lines of 'I drive an SUV and reserve my right to run over your children in it' you can tell who the bike with the panniers in the newspaper car park belongs to.
