The Police Party....... "The Prime Minister could face a Commons inquiry into claims of Government "politicisation" of police chiefs over new anti-terror laws.Tories are unhappy that chief constables lobbied and wrote to their MPs, urging them to support powers to hold terror suspects for up to 90 days without charge.Despite endorsement from the police, the proposal was rejected by MPs in Tony Blair's first Commons defeat on Wednesday."

Personally I agree with the Tories on this, during the debate on these powers Ian Blair repeatedly went on record telling MPs that they should vote for the bill. IMO it is the business of the Police to use the powers that they are granted...it is not for them to enter into political debate or lobbying. They went well beyond the line this time.

The more I hear from Ian Blair, the more I think he's a . He seems to be looking for the limelight a little too often in my totally uninformed (or should that be uniformed) opinion....

Teachers tell MP's which way to vote on Education matters and Doctors on Health issues so it is really not that much of a surprise.
