Just been out to take the car for a spin.

As I was doing my walkaround pre-flight check it became very apparent that my tax disk and the holder are nowhere in the car or the house. Dunno if its flown out whilst driving or been pinched whilst the roof has been off and its been parked.

What do I do?

Can you get replacements? I dont even know when it runs out...

Pop along to those nice people in the reading DVLA office, and they will sort you out.

IIRC it's about £7 for a replacement.

Does it have to be the VRO or will a tax disc issuing post office do?

According to www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/lost_stolen.htm it's a local DVLA office thing, not Swansea or the post office. There's a link to download a V20 and do it by post on that site.

I hope you'll be doing the honest thing by immediately reporting your "failure to display" to the nearest Police Officer.

When I picked up my current car it wasnt taxed so the dealer very kindly offered to do it for me. They went to the local DVLA centre in Bristol (had to do some others there too) and sent the disk on - ok, so I wasnt displaying for a couple of days. But as the dealer said, since its been licensed at the DVLA centre its on the database there and then. So if the BiB do a PNC its taxed, just not showing (which could happen if had fallen off!).

There are bigger things and which car are they going to stop? One without displaying a disk but the PNC shows it as taxed, or one without a disk and which the PNC is showing as an alert? You would be extremely unfortunate to get stopped and at worst are looking at a talking-to rather than anything else.

Famous last words of course - but I wouldnt worry about it.

Depends on who spots it, as the offence of "failure to display" applies nonetheless.

Of course, but chances are its not going to lead to a stretch and confiscation of a car is it?
