Picking up the Chim was quite a special day.

As a complete aside cliff and I apologise for the small hijack but has anyone ever jumped in your car and shouted 'Follow that cab!'?

Somehow I blagged a new Puma out of my parents as my first car. The only problem was it was when they were just realeased and there was a six week wait. Time has never gone so slowly, especially as I was stuck with my Mums Rover as a stop-gap.

When I finaly picked it up on the Friday afternoon I drove non-stop for about 8 hours. Went to sleep for about 4 and then woke up to drive it again non-stop all weekend. I think I finished the 1000 mile running in period in about 5 days.

First car was my mate's grandad's. He had cataracts and had to stop driving, so I got me a green mark 1 1.2 Astra (B reg) He'd had it from new and it was spotless (I also got every MOT and bill including the original purchase invoice) with about 70k on the clock.

I absolutely loved that car and it never let me down once (well once, but that was because we forgot to reconnect something after changing the water pump).

As for the dream car-unfortunately I'm still waiting for the day I can afford my Cerbera

I usually get all excited, even about the most boring mundane vehicle purchases.

Best/worst (depending on how you look at it) was picking up the Alfa - 8 month wait from ordering it to collection. Had to fly to Denmark to pick it up & then drive it back. Then had to store it for a week before being able to drive it "for real" in the UK. I was like a kid in a sweet shop...

I remember collecting the Cerbera. Was like a little kid at Christmas. Took my old man along with me, and he did'nt quite know what to expect. But when he saw it he was more excited than me - he spent a good half hour chatting with the seller and being shown around the car, while i just played with the dog!

I will always remember the look on my Dad's face when he saw the Cerbera for the first time!

When I picked up the Chim I was like a kid on christmas morning.
Mind you, every time its dry and I stomp the loud pedal, I get the same effect!

I'll always remember the look on my wife's face when I went out in the morning with no plans, and returned in the afternoon with my TVR - followed by the salesman driving my Beemer.

The wife's draw dropped, and the kids all starting cheering. Priceless!

When I picked up my car Honestly I felt sick. I felt sick for days worrying about all the money I'd spent on a car. worrying that it would break, worrying that it would cost me a fortune to run.

I love it and I will keep it a long time but I still worry

First Porsche - a Boxster when they first came out. Waited a year after deposit, picked it up on a Friday and a week later drove me and the missus through France and into Italy for holiday. Pure magic!!!!!!!!

First new car I got was my Focus. Went to Essex to pick it up. Stalled it about 4 times coming out of the dealer's car park because I was used to weighty Land Rover controls!

Took one of my mates out for a drive in it. He was stunned at how sedately my driving was... he'd been used to me hairing it about in the Landy with it on its door handles most of the time

I remember the excitement surrounding every car Ive ever bought (except the volvo).
My first car was a Lancia delta hf turbo for £2k. When the bloke opened the garage I nearly came. It was one of lifes great moments. I often think I got as much pleasure buying that as I did my Maserati which Id dreamed of since the first day i saw one.

Picking up my Griffith was superb. I couldnt sleep the night before!

Next best was the Tamora, James Agger made a real event of it and even provided me with a TVR wooly hat so I could drive home with the roof off!

The last TVR, the T350 was the most stylish though. Had it delivered on a low loader the night before the new reg came out so I could drive it straight to my cousins wedding the next morning! Cool!

Bringing back my first TVR - an S3 - was, I suspect, much like a big-game hunter bringing home his first tiger. And for some time afterwards, whenever I walked to the garage to get it out, I felt I was going on a mission, like a Spitfire pilot
