I’ve just come back from a restaurant where for a main course I had breast of duck with toffee sauce and dried bananas with apples and walnuts! The thing is it was absolutely sensational! Duck with toffee sauce! What mad er came up with that idea? One thing’s for sure. They're either earning a fortune or locked in an asylum now.

So over to you lot. What other odd combos have you had that taste superb (pregnant ladies need not respond!)?

Large pickled gherkins with clear honey and soured cream for dips. Georgian Red Wine to clear the palate between mouthfuls.

About 1/2 a bottle of Orange Vodka to start the feast ...

The comination of MEAT with SUGAR isn't "odd" at all. Its very common - and very tasty!

e.g. Bacon, pancakes and maple syrup.
e.g. "Honey Roast" lamb.
e.g. Duck with Hoi Sin sauce
e.g. Roast pork with apple sauce

You want "odd" you've got to get wierder than that.

Mine: Porridge with salt AND cream! (no sugar - )

Pork in Coca-Cola from Nigella's recipe book is rather tasty.

It is really just a turbocharged version of honey glazed ham,

But there is something perversely satisfying about pouring two litres of Coke over a big lump of pork whilst thinking about Nigella Lawson.

Cheers

Pat
