Alternative holidays
Discussion
Well already thinking about what to do for next years holiday.
Problem is as Richard Branson and Burt Rutan have not got their space trips of the launch pad yet, im looking for an alternative holiday from the norm.
Was thinking of going to the burning man festival at the Black Rock Desert Nevada.
Has anyone been or is it just full of hippies and drop outs ??
Any suggestion welcome.

I once hit Moab Utah at the same time as the annual Jeep festival. That was a petrolheads delight, albeit for different reasons to my usual interests. The great thing about the place is that it's also rammed with jeep rental outfits who will rent you a fully modded beast for an appropriate sum and encouraage you to use it properly. Amazing fun and great scenery.
You need to get yourself out to Kentucky boy!! Try the Knob Creek Machine Gun Festival on April 7th-10th 2006. You can hang out with some good ole boys, rent yourself a fully automatic assault rifle and pretend to shoot yourself some terrorists! Yeeeeha!!

A pair of these mounted in your pickup would take care of most Gatsos.

I know several people who were regulars at Burning Man, but its changed so much over the years they stopped going.
From what I can gather, it lost the "spirit" and became too commercail.
Why not do a Polo Holiday in Argentina..? I would love to do something like that. If you cant or dont want to ride, there is still other stuff to do.
Go to a ranch in Montanna, heard cattle and then sit around a camp fire eating stew at night, sleeping under the stars..

What about: www.eurohoon.com?
I had the most wonderful time on the MegaHoon this year. Pop along to the Eurohoon forum to find out more.
A couple of friends of mine went on a three week safari last year in Kenya - desert, grassland and spent last week on a beach (they found that a bit tedious after day two or three). If they went again they might consider going to Madagascar as well.
Another friend did a two month trek around Thailand, Vietnam and China. They had the most amazing experience and the photographs that they took were quite breathtaking in their beauty.
Places I would like to explore are Outer Mongolia, Patagonia and Iceland.

I think it the same with most popular festivals these days Claire its all about commercialism, the origin concept always seems to be of last concern.
So looks like i will have to do a bit more research for burning man.
Eurohoon does sound tempting tho Emma, must have a look at the eurohoon forum.

If your rich enough to consider a space flight you could do the next closest thing, it aint cheap though (though relatively good value)!
