I have never set the Sky pin number on my machine but just as I wanted to watch Dirty Harry on TCM it's asking me for the PIN number, somehow the parental control has been turned on probably by one of Sky's telephone updates. The last 4 digits of the Sky card doesn't unlock it either.

I called the number for Sky and eventually after making my way through the automated menu it said......"your call will be answered in less than 1 hundres and sixty seven minutes" 167 minutes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems a lot of other people have experienced the same thing.

If anyone else has TCM, Horror channel locked out by the PIN code and have successfully got through the a human being at Sky let us know how to fix it please

Dont know, but try this, turn off power to the sky box for 1 minute, then turn it on and try again, usually fixes most problems, good luck

Found a thread on the internet, it says it is the last four numbers of your card, your first card not the current one. So everyone who has recieved a new card and destroyed (thrown away) the old one are Fd without getting the number from Sky, hence the 3 hour wait on their customer support line.

wers

I think everyone should check their systems, this is one of their stealth updates.

PS. Already tried the above, it resets the attempts to get the pin correct but still needs the pin entered.

Don't say I told you but..............

I rang the number and listened to the interminable number of messages relating to "If you want to ....." press 1 etc.

I selected a sequence of numbers which, shall we say, might suggest that I was interested in filling Murdoch's pockets with even more money. After a suitably orchestrated brief conversation which I knew was going nowhere I ended with, "oh another thing could you just tell me my PIN no as I appear to be having problems."

20 seconds later sorted my son.

Didn't hear it from me though.

Yeah... the last big update was timed to coincide with their parental controls advertising campaign. I hadn't used my PIN for a few years and it took me a couple of hours to find the scrap of paper with it on.

ANything you record now which is a 12 certificate or over seems to require that you enter the PIN to watch it, even if you don't have any controls enabled.

I've just done the random calling, managed to get it now.

They asked me my security password...."my what? I said" Seems in the dim and distant past I gave them a password. Luckily it was my mums maiden name, but it was suprised after all the questions they asked that they didn't request a photocopy of my birth certificate to prove my age.

Sorted now, but what a bloody anoyance.

I think SKY should be reported to OffCom with that ffing crappy phone system of theirs. The last time I called I was on the line for 30 mins before speaking to the "correct" person. Thieving bas*ards!!!

We had a similar problem recently when trying to get a ppv movie on Ntl.

We used to have a PIN, then it wasn't necessary - then suddenly we were being asked again.

We had 3 attemps: Tried the old PIN - no. Tried 1111 - no. Tried 1234

Ha!, I tried watching Dirty Harry too last night, and was asked for a PIN number.
I ended up watching Spooks instead.

I've had a couple of 'discussions' with Sky about this. Basically they say "We spoke to our customers (I wasnt asked) and viewers groups(?), after feedback from them, we have implemented the new system of where you are asked for your PIN whenever you want to watch a film with a rated certificate. This is to protect children from watching unsuitable films"

I explained that I didn't have any children in my household and that I am a serial channel hopper and having to enter my PIN everytime is a pain in the backside to say the least and I want it removed forthwith.........they are looking at alternitves.

I know my pin as I sometime watch a film on Box Office.

Its annoying having to put the number in when I dont have any parental setting set up.

I am big boy now I think I should be able to decide what to watch

 sure..... its the box office films

We have never plugged our into the phone - no problems here. I find the 30 sec free view more then enough for me without having to pay for the film.

Thing is im an organised horder. I have every piece of documentation received from sky in a cardboard storage thing I got from Ikea.

Cardboard storage thing in cupboard by tv with DVD's in front. Pin is written on the side of the box above the height of the DVD's.

I will have you know I dont whatch those sorts of channels
you get better extras on DVD

Neither did we until we got a snotty letter from Sly .. sorry Sky saying you have not got your box plugged in which is a condition of your contract for 12 months.

So we plugged it in, connected on some strange thing so we had a 12p on our bill for looking at some website or other then disconnected it. Then we never heard another thing.
