Prince Charles - Environmentalist or Hypocrite?
Discussion
Prince Charles keeps banging on about the environment and how it should be top of everyones agenda because if we go on as we are we're all doomed etc...
Thats all fine. It's all probably bollox but he's entitled to his opinions.
But............
He flys to America on a chartered 757 (£250,000 - paid for by us). Not exactly an environmentally friendly way to travel. He could have gone 1st class on BA and put the entourage (including hairdresser, make up artist, secretary and dresser for her - 2 valets, pr man, dresser, secretary and two "luggage handlers" for him) in steerage and saved tons of harmful emissions, not to mention about £200k for us.
All this for a trip that appears to have aroused not one jot of interest in the USA.
He has 2 Astons (nothing wrong with that as long as he doesn't want me to drive a Prius). He has a Bentley that he instructed a driver to drive down to Switzerland at 12 mpg so it was available for him to use when he was there. He uses private jets like most people use the tube.
When he goes for his months holiday in Scotland in the summer an articulated lorry is required for his luggage. :yikes:
At least Gordon Brown (who I hate with a passion) preaches prudence at us and at the same time eschews the official Jag and travels by Vauxhall. Charles preaches environmentalism and lives a life of unenvironmental debauchery. :irked:

He also believes trains are so green that he uses one for himself.

Last March, for example, he travelled from Gloucestershire to Cumbria at a cost of £23,463 to see, rather ironically, the steam train which runs on the Settle to Carlisle line, above.
Another single train journey took the prince from Aberdeen to Plymouth for assorted engagements involving organic farms and fisheries at a cost, according to the audited royal accounts, of £45,000.
Use of the train is defended on the grounds that it allows royalty to arrive in tip-top condition for official visits. Only running costs for an individual journey are itemised, however, and not the fixed costs of keeping the train on the rails.

Yes he is so Green isn't he. So he lives in several houses all at once, all heated all far too big for him. he drives a huge car and has others following him in equally huge cars. He had a helicopter to travel to Yate which is about 15 miles from Highgrove where he was at the time. So he has the right to lecture us on climate change. This really makes my blood boil when someone by accident of birth can be allowed to spout so much hypocritical rubbish.

ENVIRONMENTALIST OR HYPOCRITE?
Most of the former are the latter.
Good point.
In my opinion there are true Environmentalists and then there are lentilists who are using environmental arguments in order to attack private enterprise and individual freedom.
It is the latter group who support building wind farms in the lake district and in nature reserves.
What is Prince Charles's stance on that particular issue?

Charles is a net cost and an irrelavence. Unfortunately when the thick bastard opens his stupid mouth people listen. He is contributing to making this country a laughing stock. We need a republic fast.
I never thought that I would become a republican but the more I listen to the absurd pontifications of the heir to the throne the more I come round to the idea.
The monarchy has gone to pot in a matter of 30 years, since the advent of Charles and his inbred siblings. Like most I respect the Queen but I cannot stomach the thought of being "ruled" by this non achieving but grandiose sermonizer of self serving bunkum.

Charles has been offered a Civic IMA hybrid.
One wonders if he will pootle about in that instead of the Bentley?

Yep, more politicians is the solution, after all, they don't cost money at all do they? I wonder if Blunkett would like the job?

So he has some big houses...
Would you rather all houses deemed "too big" were left to go derelict?
He needs a lorry for his luggage...
What is really in this luggage? I doubt that it's all changes of underware. How do you know that stuff for press conferences, security equipment, secretaries bumf etc isn't included in that?
Planes, trains, cars, etc
If he doesn't use them he's accused of not suporting the industries! The Bentley going to switzerland case looks to be an extravagance until you realise that it may well be armoured and there might have been a personal threat to him that we don't know about.
As for becomming a republic you are all joking aren't you? What makes you think, for one second, that anyone emerging from our current political scene would be any better? Tony for president anyone? Gordon Brown? How about one of our non-entity tories?

I'll have some more respect for him, when he stops banging on about alternative medicines. You know, like ones that have been scientifically proven to have no benefit whatsoever. Homoeoeoeapthy for example...
Environmentalist or hypocrite? I prefer the description "Head Woo-Woo" from the James Randi commentary this week.

There will always be Americans, lost for any cultural heritage, who will fawn over Royalty, after all, they have given good old Fergy a career and income, but Feckless Charles and His Lonely Squeeze are not enjoying much adulation here. The memory of Diane - which has become an industry in the USA - hovers over him like the last raven in the Tower. And yes, I am all for Republics, however it does not sit comfortably with independence for Scotland, but I am working on that.
I think you'll find she was called DIANA.
