China must be a helluva rich country!
Discussion
Dipped my toes in "Fortune oil" several times, a favourite penny share of mine, oil interests in China, petrol stations ect They are based in Hong Kong. Mostly plugged by so called uk equity companies that mail-shot prospective investors saying the share is going to fly shortly (of course they have filled their boots first). Accordingly its share price rises just on sentiment rather then facts. The secret is to get in there before these companies plug the share and then jump out after the rise.

I'd be more worried about Russia than China atm...they seem to be picking up pace pretty quickly.
I find all this rather amusing. Russia and China weren't "developing" nations in the eyes of the western world until we started exploring for oil, gold and other commodities over there. We get (sometimes...) a licence to go over there, flood the place with money, people, cars etc that open the eyes of the local population to such tastes. We find what we are looking for and exploit it, thus opening up a local market for the iterms we produce (in particular oil). The more we find and develop, the more the locals get in on it and the more they desire, so the loop is self-propelling...
Mad really - but only ourselves to blame. Wouldn't worry me if China got hod of Exxon. Can't be more corrupt than they already are....

China uses a lot of oil and its demand will only increase. Thus I wouldn't be surprised if China were to make a move to secure future oil supplies.
They have, been making a few moves in Iran.

If China having Exxon does nor worry you, then you are kidding yourself. Anyway, the US Government (Security & Exchange Comission) would block such a takeover under the guise of national security.
In a global politicial sense the Chineese are saying that they wan't oil so badly from Iran, that for all the oil Iran has, the Chineese would be prepared to exchange all of the Nuclear weapons technology that they want.
That would include intercontinental missiles, civilian and weapons atomic technology transfer, including intangible technology transfer.
It's just their way of continuing the high stakes trade war that is going on between the Americans and the Chineese.
IMO this is the real "oil angle" of the Iraq war. (If I'm right it's not something we sould be complaining about.)
I tell you, even if it's not true, there's a Bond movie in it.
{I reckon matey that made the offer works for the Chineese "Ministry of Information". That's what the bit about the Fourteenth floor flat was all about.}
