This has probably been asked before... but anyway, anyone got recommendations for made to measure shirts?

Currently wear Pink off the peg with sleeve alterations, thinking I may as well go the whole hog since I'm skinny and the off-the-peg shirts are too baggy.

Somewhere around the City not too far from Bishopsgate would be ideal. Yeah, I'm lazy :)

Not looking for flash, impressive brands or OTT prices, just sensible, good looking shirts that actually fit properly ;)

If you want somewhere near Bishopsgate and reasonably priced, go to Mangas on Copthall Avenue, which is just off London Wall. It's very near K10 the sushi place. It's cheaper than the below because they take your measurements and fax them off to Spain to make the shirts, which are then sent back here. I've had quite a few from there now, only criticism is that on a couple of them a button or two came off sooner than I'd expect, so I took them back and they fixed them.

Otherwise head to Jermyn Street, the best street in the world for tailored shirts. It is to shirts as Saville Row is to suits. Best of the best is supposedly Turnbull and Asser, but I quite like Hilditch & Key.

I've never found decent tailored shirts in the City and I had the same issue as you - ridiculously big bodies on shirts. I get mine made at Budd in Prince's Arcade just off Piccadilly.

Ah, that's the answer - I'm not earning enough to get through enough of the legendary City Lunches (tm) to acquire the appropriate belly and waistline

Sadly, apart from a couple of occasions a year, I think those lunches were the preserve of previous generations. Somebody must still do it though to explain all the restaurants with great wine lists open at lunchtime!

Another vote for Budd - very nice shirts and a great little shop.

However, I've never really been convinced by mfm shirts, since you can get off the peg shirts that are really pretty darn good. Recommend TM Lewin for off the peg, if you haven't tried them already.

I think a lot will depend on whether you happen to be the right shape for how the shirt is made. If not, then I guess mfm is the only option

Suits, however, a different matter ...

5 hour lunches are still alive and well in the world of insurance. Was quite disappointed by the lack of them when I moved from Lloyd's of London into banking.

If, like me, you don't fit the standard shape, mfm shirts are a nice luxury: I have 16.5" neck, 42" chest, 34" waist and 36" arms (they measure from the centre of the back!) and to get an off the peg shirt to fit, I usually have to buy something made for a fatty

Don't disagree at all - if you aren't the right shape then mfm is obviously the way to go. However, different makers have a different view on what is right, e.g. Pink just don't fit me at all, but Hilditch and Key or TM Lewin do.

A second vote for Mangas AND they do mtm for girlies too. Very good value IMO.

If you are ever in the Brighton area there is a tailor called Gresham Blake which does great off the peg shirts (the MTM suits are good too). They are a fair bit narrower in the body than the usual lot (Lewins, Pink, Tyrwitt etc) but don't look panelled like a few other fitted shirts can. The shirts come in at about £45 a pop so comparative value to the other lot.
