You can remove the "Northern" from the title as you can see from the BBC report, it's rife all over the country. My generation (I'm 27), to all intents and purposes, have no religion. Catholism has nothing to offer except self-rightous bigots preaching from afar. This nation, by and large, has lost faith in priests and the Catholic Church. Too many priests have been charged with child abuse. The biggest part of the Ferns Report, which got a mention above, was that the higherarchy knew what their priests were doing, and if anyone caused a stir, the Bishop just moved the Priest. They looked after No.1, and to hell with the children.

Sorry. Bit of a rant. But the Church are a pack of SHTS

Ireland wakes up - at last.

To be honest, revelations have been tumbling out of the Catholic Church, both in Ireland and elsewhere, for the last 15 or so years - and about time too.

Even as a kid (I'm talking of the 1960s) I had a healthy disrespect for the Catholic Church and kept them at arms length - no altar boy or sedality duty for me. So many of my class mates of that era did take part in all sorts of church activities and it is their generation that is finally coming forward with these dreadful stories. I was lucky, I feel.

The thing is though, that the Irish media have been extremely reluctant to run these kind of stories for the past 20-odd years.

Whilst I did not go to a Christian Brothers school, the one I did go to was extremely religious - but nothing 'of that sort' went on.

I am no expert on Sexuality or Peadophilia but I would suggest that when normal human sexuality is surpressed than it is going to come out in other ways.

IMHO men and women need sex an love in the same way that they need food and water to function as health human beings.

So praying (excuse the pun) on a child is ok then. Or is it only when you're in a position of power and respect in the community so that the kids trust you that it's ok?

I know what you mean and I've taken it slightly out of the context you ment. But thats what the Priests were doing. They were perfectly happy with the situation.

I guess children were the easy target. Still it's all a bit weird, pedophiles seem to deliberately choose occupations where they have access to children, priest, teacher etc

Is it a case of pedophiles becoming priests or priests becoming pedophiles?

I can't understand why any man would want to have sex with a child.

It goes against nature because the main motivation for sex using a darwin model is to produce babies.

Biologically we should not have Peadophiles because children are unable to get pregnant.

Dude, you should probably edit that before you get a rampant mob outside your door.

I assume you mean "I can't understand why any man, etc, etc"

We have the weapons, we just need the will. Bomb the Vatican for openers.

Not sure bombing the Vatican is quite what I go along with but I question how a faith that does not believe in condoms or contraception can be relevant in todays world.
