Just out of interest. Been shopping this afternoon with the Missus and the Baby ( just 3 weeks old ). Baby in car seat on trolley. Trolley full.

I'd treated myself to a nice Single Malt. As we were leaving the alarm went off as we passed through the detector. I just carried on walking as I have on the few other occasions this has happened to me.

I've just poured myself a nice double and the dozy wench had left the security device on the bottle.

If they had stopped me then their would have been trouble because no way would I have taken all the shopping out of the trolley AND removed the sleeping baby to prove I had not nicked anything.

What do you think would have happened ?

Er. As opposed to this thread ...

Don't waste Teds bandwidth if you are incapable of formulating a reply then don’t bother. I found your thread on Spiritualism excruciatingly tedious but I had the good grace to keep my mouth shut …

Good for you..

but you asked basically..

ohhhh went shopping, some dozy bint forgot to remove a tag, can you imagine how angry i can get grrrrrr...look at me im angry grrr grrrr

And my spiritulism thread was about why the its always assumed by those with religion slowing their brains that those who dont have the same syrup in our heads, our thoughts are somehow inadequate.

Get over yourself.... Actually have to ask, are you Richard Madeley? If you are how did you manage to have kids with Judy "ugly as a baboon" Finegan? Were you drugged?

I've had it go off before, I just keep walking, chances are about 2 or three people walked in/out about the same time and if you act like nothing has happened they probably won't bother you, one of the other people would probably have thought it was them and stopped and looked confused and start showing their bag to any security dude who happens to be around. I dont even think they can prosecute you once you have left the shop.

If you have actually stolen anything and it goes off as you walk through, whats to stop you doing a runner, you'll be halfway down the street before the security guard gets off his arse, and they already factor shoplifting into the prices so as long as you dont go back again for a few years you'll probably get away with it.

Most crime is perpetrated by criminals. Most criminals are retards with no idea how to commit crime as they are pissheads and crackheads with no reason for living. This is why they get caught. In general, the shoplifter will have been sussed long before they ever get to the door so the exiting is merely the icing on the long baked cake.

All goods in a supermarket are an invitation to treat and you have to physically remove them from the shop before anyone is likely to take any action. That isn't to say you can't be done for theft or attempt theft if you stick it under your coat and have no money on you.

For those times when respectable people leave the store and the alarm goes off, the shops generally know it's a mistake. If it goes off and a known criminal is leaving, they will stop that person. They won't challenge anyone who they don't have grounds to believe has committed an offence.

Little old ladies who nick stuff are generally spotted doing something naughty before they leave and pretend they forgot to pay. In short, it was very unlikely they would bother you.

As far as I know (from a mate who did security for a couple of supermarkets), unless the same member of staff sees you take something off the shelf and keeps you in sight all the way out of the store there is very little they can do. Of course, as it has been observed, most shoplifters aren't the brightest people so are easily spotted by any half decent security guard. The sight of my mate (all 6' 6" and 18+ stone) stood by the exit with an evil grin was enough to make all bit the most hardend shoplifter give up and put the stuff back.

My wife was stopped and searched at a well known DIY store last week by a security guard who spotted ger walking INTO the shop with a full shopping bag.

Don't try to tell me that secirity guards are particularly intelligent.

Similar, got a bottle of Glenfiddich for a crimbo prezzy from my local ASDA, checked it at home, and the dozy bitch had left the tag on, no bleep by the way.

So I took it back, still no bleep, showed her the problem, "Wheres your receipt" she said, told her nothing to do with it, told her I had just walked back in with it and no bleep probably coz the container is tin, and may mask the signal.

She took the tag off, but none too pleased I can tell you.

On occasions that the door thing does bleep, I keep on walking, why, like you, should I stop, I have done nothing wrong.

security staff must see you:

1) Take the item from the shelf (you may have brought something in just like it to ensure you bought the right thing)

2) Walk PAST the check outs & make no attempt to pay.

3) Leave the store.

Only then should a security guard stop you, as an ex store detective i have let lots of people walk away as i wasnt confident they still had the stuff with them, lost sight for a second or two & they could have dumped it, that said on one occasion there was a teenager that had 10 or so disposable razors down his top, he spotted me & dumped them just in the door, i followed him out & pinned him against the wall & said if i see you in the store again i'll take your f##king head off.... didnt see him but i shouldnt have done it really!

Oh & its a crap job for less than £5 per hour, good scraps though....

Lets be fair on this, we cant all be company directors, or general managers, some people just have to take what's available, and some take what they see as a cushy job perhaps, some may even good at spelling security?,.............
