My son recently turned 18 and today he received a letter from his local MP wishing him a happy birthday and to let him know he is there if he needs any advice etc.

I don`t remember getting one so is this normal these days? :)

pre-emptive strike.

I read that as:

"we have you under observation and any malarky from you and we will slap an ASBO on yo'ass"

Well knowing what some MP's get up to out of the House i'd be a bit concerned

Am I the only person to see it as a cynical vote gaining ploy?

Come to think of it, I think I got one - but as I lived in the Tory heartlands, I don't think it swayed my vote

The thought did cross my mind and the "V" word was mentioned, but not regarding his own party - personally signed by him and direct from the House of Commons, surely not sent to all?!

Overall, a good letter.

Will your son send your MP a card on his birthday in return?

Actually you may have hit the nail on the head there!

Recently my son was in the local pub enthusing about his first flying lesson, when who should walk in than his local MP. When he was telling all how he landed gently, it could be that the MP misheard that as landed gentry!

I got one 10 years ago (giving my age away now ), as did most of my friends - in the Peterborough area.

I never got one. All I got from the government on my 18th birthday was a poll tax demand. Bastards.
