A friend of mine just had a rather good outcome from a unpleasant dog attack ......

We were out mtn biking a few months ago - and when we finished a small yappy dog ran up , and bit him several times ....... the owner was rather obnoxious and un-apologetic - the bite marks were deep enough to bleed.

Anyway ..... He and I both gave separate statements to the Police detailing the attack.....

The owner offered £50 compensation with no apology - which was rejected ...........he was then awarded £1000 from the owners insurance company for injuries and scarring :) - so we all had a few extra  after biking yesterday.

The Police have advised next time the dog attacks it will be sadly :goodbye: to the dog .

Anyone else had a similar experience ? - we were rather surprised by the total lack of apology from the dog-owner ( twat ) - who seemed to think it was OK to let his pooch run around biting people.

I once got bitten by a dog and all I got was some scars and week of trying not to sh*t myself because of the anti-biotics they gave me. I don't suppose anyone really needed to know that.

I've had a yappy little mutt (why are they always small ones?) try to attack me before whilst on the bike. It's amazing just how quickly they back off when they get an SPD cleat smack in the face.

I hold onto my dog when we meet people, not because he's vicious, but because he is a big softie, and some of the places we walk are a little remote......don't want anyone finding out how soft he is as he slobbers all down their legs. Want to keep the illusion he may attatck if provoked..........fat chance

Often owners of small dogs seem to think it's ok for their pets to be out of control.

Where we used to live one of the neighbours had a GSD, nice dog we thought until one of my sons who was quite young at the time cycled pass their house. The dog ran out and kindly assisted Matt off his bike. The usual ranting started and the Cops told them to keep the dog under control. They blocked the side entrance to their house so the dog couldn't 'escape' ...... blocked it with a dustbin.
And I'm not having a pop at German Shephard dog owners, we've got one but we make sure as with all our dogs, they're kept under control.

Sorry to hear what happened. Things like that can scare people for life from dogs.

If it were one of those nasty rat dogs, I'd kick the bugger to kingdom come if it tried biting me.

I hate small dogs.....eughhhh....

Big dogs....now there's another ball game. They're quality! (Used to have a Labrador). However if a big dog tried to attack me, I'd run like my arse were on fire.

Couldn't agree with you more. This doggy would never bite you!

As long as it was small enough for me to be sure of an easy victory

I had 4 stitches in my cheek when i was 3 year old from a (mongrel) dog (left a small permanent scar), even now i wouldn't of wanted the dog put to death over it, maybe i am a bit soft with animals though.

lost half my ear to a work colleagues Dalmation, believe me the last thing you think of is retaliation at the time, and yes they did say it's a lovely dog and wouldn't hurt a fly. A dog is a dog is a dog

Owners should be more responsible, period.

That said I wouldn't make a big fuss if I was bitten by a yappy thing. Dogs can be like that in some circumstances. Everybody knows a dog may chase a bike, it's what some dogs do. A GSD would be a different matter depending on the circumstances.

If it was a really big dog I may not have as much choice in the matter as I'd like
