Is it just me that finds this really upsetting?

Never mind the why's and how's, it really shocked me when I saw this on the news today.

No not just you.

The only saving grace is that he will be too young to remember (if he survives) anything that happened.

You think?

That's pretty traumatic - two weeks on your own at three years old.

Truly horrible for the little lad, but what an industrious little soul he is. If only he could have raised the alarm himself.

I hate to hear about/read things like this.

Terrible.

Also sad that neither were missed before 2 weeks...

Am I right to be a bit surprised the 3 year old couldn't open the door, or operate the telephone?

(I only say this as my 18 month olds can open doors, have worked out what keys are for, including inserting them into locks, but not yet turning. Also mimic us with phones, including pressing buttons and babling into mouthpiece)

Not that I am assigning blame, or similar, as I think that 2 weeks might affect the poor child for the rest of it's life?

My earliest two memories are from when I was three. I hope you are right and that he forgets this.

Can't help but think what my little babies would have been like at 3 years old all on their own for 2 weeks. very distressing story

but why did it happen? 2 weeks and no one noticed? my GF is on the phone to her mum every single day for friggin hours and then there is her mates etc etc. the alarm would have gone up far sooner than 2 weeks.

Neighbours?

Don't undertstand how this could happen in the first place. but then is is an awful lot I don't understand these days

Mine too!

However, without wishing to cast any aspertions on the family, it doesn't look like to the most salubrious of areas (so I am now generalising about standards of education/IQ) which might have a bearing. I also find it astonishing that the Grandmother didn't contact them for two weeks!

Just heard about this on the radio and one of the neighbours was being interviewed. He said he wondered what the smell was, even cleaned out his fridge

The kid was pushing the letters back through the letterbox to try and alert attention and the neighbours were shoving them back through. FFS

I understand what you mean (ie not being harsh), but it might be more relevent as to the amount of security on doors/windows?

Whatever happened, the fact that 'mum' kept the larder well-stocked saved her childs life by the sound of it.

Without wishing to cast any further aspersions, is there any news on the Fathers' whereabouts or any other suspects? Cause of death?

What a brave little lad! It horrifies me to think what might have happened if the boy hadn't had easy access to food and drink.
