due to a cock up at work i'm going to be stuck in bedford tonight..anyone recommend any good bars?

I went about 6 months ago and it was horrific but I didn't know any good places and it was a friday night so i'm prepared to cut it some slack!

any PH'ers up for a beer?

edit: no jokes about being 'in' bedford either

Lived there for 4 years when I was at uni, then working.

Best suggestion is to run like the wind

I used to drink in the Nags Head many moons ago, but it went downhill, and I don't think most of the other pubs are still there (hogshead used to be a regular haunt, and the Foresters was a reasonable haunt for the rugby team).

Whereabouts exactly are you going to be staying?

Just a pity it's not the time of year for a nice stroll down the river bank-only good thing I can remember about the place (and Chaplins if that's still there )

Which way out of town do you head Bedford. I lived out by Polhill(the tower and then lived above Nobby's Hobbies, the shop known throughout the town) and then by Goldington Green for a while before moving to Black Tom.

We used to drink in one or two of the pubs out that way (White Horse(?)). It's been a while though!

Aaarrggghhh Tom, If only a bit more notice. St Neots is only 15 minutes up the road so would have been perfect otherwise.

Thinking about it, send us a PM with your mobby number just in case I can persuade the wife to let me out - I'll give you a call and see where you are!

Is that the one opposite some traffic lights on a sort of staggered cross roads?

minimax bar requirements:

1. beer

2. ashtrays

3. wenches (optional, providing 1 & 2 have been fulfilled)

let's have a mini PH gathering! (waits with baited breath as nobody turns up )

As the g/f is a hairdresser in Bedford and hence knows half the female population within the town I may need to be a little careful in this respect, especially as she's pretty handy with a pair of razor sharp scissors.
Hopefully see you guys there if I can get a pass out.

Shame it's so short notice as I'm only 20 minutes away - and am REALLY in need of a pint or five tonight (See Life's short thread).

You poor bugger! I commuted from Haywards Heath to Bedford for 4 months rather than stay in that complete pit of a hotel. Try & get them to put you up in one of the "luxury" rooms as they are slightly better than the standard rubbish.

Urgh, I can feel the flea bites just thinking of the place.

Coming from Nottingham surely it'd be like home for him!!!
The Weatherspoons on the high Street isn't all that bad - last time I was in there totty count wasn't too bad (though this was a Saturday night after about 8 pints)
