I do an evening German course here in Vienna and we have two Serbs and one Croat in the class.

Needless to say, you get some interesting 'tones' popping up at times......

Ive noticed that you know almost everything in the world Eric .
In future i will simply email you questions about anything.
A little more detail if you please- ie was it simply a massacre of innocents or was it combat etc?
Thanks

Denoted as a UN 'Safe Haven' for non-combatants, guarded as such by Dutch troops.

Serbian force arrived on the scene, Dutch unable to persuade UN chain of command to take action, faced with option of either 'leave so we can ethnically cleanse Srebrenica' or 'stay and be killed so we can ethnically cleanse Srebrenica'.

Dutch leave, Serbs ethnically cleanse: women sent away, men/boys put in holes in the ground.

Resulting casualties estimated at 6,000, now being slowly recovered from mass graves, plus the Dutch Government, when the details came to light some time later.

Bosnian Serb Army V Bosnian Muslim civilians, not Croats

Serb army took over UN 'safe area' and systematically killed all the men, raped women, killed babies etc.
UN/NATO unable to stop them

around 8000 were killed, young and old

republic srpska tried to cover it up, deny it, rebury corpses etc

The UN certainly

Sebrenicia shows the problem of UN 'peacekeeping' missions, when there is no peace to keep.

The UN certainly

and NATO:

"On the morning of July 10 1995, the situation in Srebrenica town was tense. Residents, some armed, crowded the streets. Colonel Karremans sent urgent requests for NATO air support to defend the town, but no assistance was forthcoming until around 1430 hours on July 11 1995, when NATO bombed VRS tanks advancing towards the town. NATO planes also attempted to bomb VRS artillery positions overlooking the town, but had to abort the operation due to poor visibility. NATO plans to continue the air strikes were abandoned following VRS threats to kill Dutch troops being held in the custody of the VRS, as well as threats to shell the UN Potočari compound on the outside of the town, and surrounding areas, where 20,000 to 30,000 civilians had fled."

He called for Nato air support and it was given, where is the failing there.

It is a UN problem, only with the UN do you have troops deployed who are sometimes not authorised to use force until they themselves have personally been fired upon.

what i'm saying is, UN and NATO were involved, the Serbs Army wasn't stopped

therefore: "UN and NATO were unable to stop them"
