About the mango, it's better if they are fairly firm. Store-bought ones aren't as good as from off the tree. Sometimes they can be almost over-ripe at one end and slightly under-ripe at the other. This happened a lot with mangoes from my parents' tree. Bizarrely, sometimes they were under-ripe at the stem and over -ripe at the end.
Just try it before you decide to throw it out. If it's ripe, it will be sweet and tangy. If it gets over ripe, it gets sweeter and sweeter, until it starts to taste a bit off. You can tell if it has a bad spot when you cut it open because that part will be softer, darker, more translucent than the rest of it. You can trim off the bad parts. If it's all really soft, it will taste/smell intolerably sweet.

I'd do see a doctor about that mate: 1) its not supposed to be that colour
2) its not supposed to be that shape
3) IIRC, its supposed to be attached to your body
Hope this helps

this sounds lie what we doctors call
soft northern b#stard syndrome, possibly brought on by to much pigeon fancying, and driving northern performance (sic) cars

Looks fine (as a mango, that is). I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Isn't it weird that they're all different colors? Usually they're all green when unripe, but can be ripe when there's just a little yellow or red and still lots of green. I'm sure it will be fine. Our store mangoes come from Puerto Rico, Mexico, or a Central American country. There are all different kinds of mangoes, some are stringy, some are smooth as custard, some have more flavor than others. The kind they use in Major Grey Chutney are the stringy sour kind.
If you've never eaten one before, you should know that the juice can stain clothing permanently, so wear a bib. And they can be stringy, especially near the seed, so don't forget to check to make sure your teeth aren't full of mango! And if you tend to get hives, well you would have found that out already, but don't eat too close to the mango skin.
Those last two paragraphs are just begging for Vixpy1's creative interpretation. Maybe it would cheer him up.
