Looks like we are getting in early with the excuses anyhow. A good thing to come from this will be all the great movies, a la Vietnam... This is gonna be one great clusterfeck! :ranting:

I'm actually beginning to think that the situation in the middle east will eventually make Vietnam look like a teddy bear's tea picnic

Do you think if us western allies got together and made an agreement that we would pull out of the middle east and build a 200 foot wall around the whole region and let them get on with their own world, then we might not have to worry about another brainwashed terrorist?

Lets face it, the more action we take against these countries (which we know we could wipe out in just a few hours with full scale assaults) the more hatred this builds against us, and the very 'purpose' we set out for: PEACE just isnt working...

I dont know where our so-called 'think tanks' were educated, but to me its like they're off another bloody planet

If we attack Iran in any shape or form, that will be the catalyst of extreme hatred for generations to come, and many of the countries we deem as allies would suddenly go full-steam ahead in the arms modernisation race and going nuclear.

The superpowers of the world sell weapons to the very countries which bite back without a single thought.

We make the mess, and then we try to clean it up, but end up making a bigger mess, then we try to clean that up, and it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger... we thought Hitler was a mad man, but it looks like our allied co-operation is doing the wrong things under the wrong reasons....

There can be no peace by interfering with sovereign states, there can be no peace by attacking countries which harbour a few thousand or less terrorists, there are MILLIONS of people in these countries, what they saw in us as fair and honest will no longer be apparent, and their views of us as saviours will turn to hatred, and each and every one of them will be deemed terrorists because of their hatred and will to attack us through the back door....

I dont know... the worlds a mess... and our so-called great leaders and 'think tanks' are screwing it up beyond recognition, you'd think after 2 world wars we'd have learned a few things...

Not when the terrorists are British citizens. And unfortunately we need their oil. For now. And when they build missiles that will comfortably clear a 200 ft wall.

You wouldnt need a high wall as they always have done and always will fight amongst themselves,we should make some excuse and get our ass's out of there start some sort of inter-tribal war off and leave them to it(anything to deflect their hate away from the western world althought i fear its too late).

What the hell we are there for in the first place is beyond me and on reflection we are acting like a load of bullies, we wouldnt have gone to China in the way we did with Iraq and we left S Africa well alone,i dont even think it was about the oil as much as it was Bush thinking he was doing something he thought his father should of done.

Its a crazy situation and one our leaders should never have got us into,i think we should pull out close our borders and start paying attention to problems in our own society before dictating to others.

Why do we need THEIR oil?

I thought Russia has plenty? Why not just invest money in Russia rather than throw it at military operations in the gulf?

If we just say 'cya chaps' and 'hello fellow pissheads' I'll have a million gallons of oil a day and a another million gallons of vodka at discount price for buying the oil... I think that deal could work out very well!

Lets just leave the middle east altogether... its no use to us, the only way we can do anything there is if we wipe the whole region of life and then we have secure safe access to the resources... but we know that cant happen, so lets just stop wasting tax payers money on pointless operations and invest in a country that at least doesnt go round tube stations wanting to blow up women and children cos of being gullable and brainwashed to think they're doing something in gods name when they're going straight to hell...

Plus to top it off, we've got our soldiers over there, fighting for a cause which was proven to be fabricated, and now the cause has shifted purpose? to protect the new government? hey? why our soldiers have to do that? so many families without their sons and fathers cos of Mr Blair's idiocracy, yeah he can rest in his wealthy home nice fat joint income in the region of 400k+ a year, meanwhile families losing their loved ones over a fight with no plausible purpose...

Yes but Munky me ole' mate, don't forget that these people were just as much victims as the general population. It was all they could do to stay alive themselves, let alone control the situation with no contact with the "outside world" for at least 5 days. I can forgive them that....

Cuba used to have a cosy oil for sugar deal with the Russians funnily enough. Actually the Russians subsidised them by paying over the odds for sugar and selling oil below market price.

However although Russia has a lot of oil, it simply isn't enough, the political risk is still high, and it's a bad idea to rely on one country for all our oil

You're not kidding. Last week there were 156 attacks on US and UK forces in Iraq. Far from eradicating "terrorist cells" - the excuse used to be " to uncover WMD" - we are increasing violent resistence to western influence. But, there's hope. For the first time I can recall since arriving in the States, anti-war protests have taken place in Birmingham, Alabama, a city rightly proud of its soldiering heritage, and traditionally considered a right-wing stronghold of opinion.

"I was raised to go along with ma president's wishes, to do the right thing. But this war ain't right. No, sir." Ex-Iraq soldier.

"I pray we do the right thing. I was a encouraging young men and women to sign up until I saw the truth. I couldn't take it anymore." Ex-army recruiter.

"I served my country, and I love my country, but I have come to believe it is just as patriotic to protest as it is to consent." 2-terms of duty soldier.

As I have said often, I have great faith in the decency of the American people. It's just that tend to see the light long after the rest of us.

Hi! again LA, Yes I totally agree upon the inherent "goodness" of the American people, but I fear too that they, like us in the U.K. are so mislead!

I've found real hope in the American system from the site: www.boomantribune.com

it's restored my faith in America in that there are people over there who can think for themselves and are not brainwashed and are prepared against all odds (like those of the USSR to stand up and be counted)against very powerful(usually right wing Mafia) interests.

I've been suprised lately by some figures, like that: 1.25 Million people in FLORIDA alone of all places have NO health cover! :yikes" God knows what the total American figures are?

Or, that: 1 in 400 Americans are officially...."Homeless"

And they tell us that we "must" follow them, because it is "the only way"?.....

sez who?....

Oh! an' I found out what a WHIG means in America, White House Iraq Group...... lead by a right charleton, it seems!....

At least Mr. Bush no longer needs excuses, he has the voice of god in his head guiding his decisions.

SXS, I can't remember the exact date, but one: Harold Wilson in the '60's (I think), wanted to set up an oil and gas pipe line from Russia. The right wing here in the U.K. and the Americans labelled him a "damned Commie" for doing so.......

Of course, the U.S.A. at the time had a vested interest in seeing the USSR economy collapse.

How times and people change? We could have been 40 yrs infront of the times!...

'nuff said. Russia's entire oil reserves would last the USA alone just 3000 days, or 8.2 years. Then take into account that Russia (as of 2001 admittedly) was only producing 7m barrels per day. The USA alone uses 20m barrels per day.

Oil shale could be the way forwards. There is shed loads of it in north america.

When we pray for divine guidance it is called devotion. When we tell people God gave us guidance that is called delusion. LA
But many of us are a little picky about who to believe when referring to “divine” guidance.

I suppose at least now the French and Americans have something in common.

Thanks for that link Speedy Thrills, interesting!....

One thinks of Hitler and his demented rantings, of God, voices, visions, Glory, the 1000 year reich, the final solution for the mafia?....(since they became legit...of course).

Welcome, Mr President!......(kisses both cheeks)
