Don't know if any one knows or cares but, I'm training to be a driving instructor and i just passed the part 2 (practical, my driving) part of the course this morning :bounce:  :cloud9:

So now I can stop taking the 'orrible car to work for practise, and go back to the bike :cloud9:

Just thought I'd let you know

So are you going to work full time or part time as an instructor? Are you working for a particular school or freelance?

Be different. Buy a Volvo 940 estate and teach people in that.

How any 'minors' did you get and for what?

Mine were for 20 in 4th (school kicking out time) and not going onto a roundabout fast enough - I thought 30 was adequate. What do I know, eh?

Are you going to take a red badge?

Congrats BTW

The reality of driving instruction is that you meet a lot of very ordinary people and a smaller crop of arseholes and lovelies.

My highlights were

The ex joyrider
The Queen of the Goths
The driving genius (strangely a deadringer for PWIG)
The lesbian who couldn't reverse to save her life and took 6 tests to prove it.
The ex gymnast with a screw holding her knee together. You could see it coming undone and she had to go get it tightened .
The social worker. Lovely girl but so easy to wind up since she was so PC.
The gun nut.
The disco kid (always wore white and getting into scraps)
The sweaty woman. I made her sit on a towel. You just would not believe the rivers of sweat pouring off her.
The stalker. Just because I was nice doesn't mean I want you, lady. I want your money My GF made me be very nasty to her to stop it.

I have been considering getting into this game as I'm rather fed up at work (understatement!) - is there anything I should know, hints, tips, advice, stories other than those above to enthuse me/put me off??

I'll be doing it full time once I've passed part 3.
I'll probably have to go with BSM as a probationer during part 3, as AA don't do PDI's.

Teach in a Volvo? - nah I was hoping Vixpy would lend us his 'passion wagon', it would be a great set for the video in the column.

Any good ideas for school names when I go solo ?

It's tedious as hell and the hours suck. But if you've never been your own boss before you'll love the freedom.
If you are prone to depression just don't.
If you have temper tantrums don't.
Get a car you like. You'll be in it a long time. Reliability matters. And make sure the passenger seat really suits you. A Recaro might be a good idea if you can get one. A bad back will ruin your life.

Do you work as an independent or as a franchisee? I was looking at the BSM training and obviously they then try to keep you on as a franchisee. Not really looked at many other training places yet.

Couldn't hack all those weekends and some of the bad attitudes.

I'm with The Instructor College (they're national). I found them very good and will possibly give unbiased advice on employment etc.
