"The BBC has proposed raising the licence fee by more than inflation so it can afford to provide new digital services."

We dont want your digital channels

The Beeb has been very well behaved lately so I suspect it will get passed.

The thing is shouldnt we have the choice whether we want these digital services rather than be forced to pay for something we dont want

£1xx a year for top gear and radio 1 is not a good deal. They should scrap the license fee.

Once everyone has switched to digital TV the BBC should be funded by subscriptions only.

Then we will have a choice whether we want lentilist propaganda rammed down our throats and perhaps the BBC will mend its ways and go back to providing impartial news coverage.

There is no longer any justification for the licence fee.

Or cannot even receive. Where I am, there is no digital reception.

No adverts. It's worth (damn, can't remember the fee! ), erm, whatever it costs just to have a few channels that don't run adverts every five minutes.

I think the licence fee is a bargain. I am happy to pay so I can watch at least a few channels without bloody adverts.

And I DO watch the digital channels. My kids love CBeebies and CBBC, and they are not bombarded with adverts for plastic tat; and I watch BBC3 and BBC4 regularly.

I also listen to the BBC digital radio stations, especially BBC7.

Even without all that, I would happily pay the licence fee just for Radio 4.

You may think so but it doesn't mean that everyone should be forced to pay a tax to support them.

It would be nice if the liesnce is optional. If you dont pay a TV liesnce, you can watch ITV (3), C4, C5 as they are free but not BBC channels.

I'll second that, Alex it's great that you think that the Beeb is good are are happy to pay for it, fine. You would choose to pay.

I on the other hand think that Beeb is crap, worse it represents a political party whose principles I disagree with and so I would like to choose not to pay for BBC channels as I don't watch them.

It's all about choice. And perhaps if 1/2 of it's audience stopped paying for it's channels the Beeb might be forced to be more representative so that more people would be willing to pay for it.

Compelling everyone to purchase a product is not the ideal way to ensure it's suitability and quality.

ITV, C4 and C5 are not free and paying for them is not optional. You pay for them everytime you buy some baked beans or use your bank or buy a new car.

NO adverts???? -WHAT! They are running their own short adverts for Bytesize, Charity work, DVD's, books and forthcoming programmes shortening the programmes by sometimes 5-10 minutes to enable them to sell it to UKGold so they can slot thier adverts in its place. For example Eastenders starts about 3mins past the hour.

My solution would be:-
Create thier own version of UKGold
Drop BBC News 24 - most people watch Sky news.
Work out what they are going to do with BBC 3 or choice or whatever its called this week.
BBC Parliment - Yeah great channel! NOT
Reduce the number of radio channels.
Stop showing Eastenders ever 10 fg minutes and go out there and find something else to broadcast. (8pm, repeated 10pm and all sunday afternoon).
Kill all Auctioning programmes they have run thier course.
Bring back thought provoking programming like documentries
Comedy more please - but remove these so-called celebs
More family orintated sceduling.
Test the nation - worked once now yawn city.
DO NOT overkill programmes for instance Little Briton - funny 1st time then just became crude.
I am sure I can think of some more.
Lastly remember WE pay for YOUR jobs do not treat us like tts.

The BBC don't need the money. Here in the US both BBC-America and BBC world news are commercial ventures and they make some very good money with adverts just as all of the other channels do. What happens to that money?

ditto here - no digital signal, and confirmed wont be available when the Analouge signal is turned off.

so by 09 i wont be needed to pay a license since i wont be recieving any signals

tempting as it is now to stop paying since i only really watch the 7pm news on C4 and the breakfast news on 1.

I wouldn't mind paying the license fee if you got a discount for all the ing soaps that are on. As has been said before, how many times does Eastenders need to be repeated.

The only ers who watch the soaps have sky plus paid out of their benefit so can just record it. Give us better quality, not some depressing sh*te. If I want that, I can go into Reading and watch all the locals for free!

OK....don't get me wrong, but when you compare foreign channels to the BBC network, you'll find we aren't getting that much of a crap deal.

We get an amazing internet resource, some (not all), quality programming. A great news service (Sky News is crap! - as is CNN and ITN News) and I'm not trying to go pro-Eastenders, but just compare it to Emmerdale and Coronation Street! Eastenders is Oscar material when compared to those other pieces of se!!!

We also have a great range of radio services and they're all available nationwide. Again, commercial stations are (usually, not always), resticted to one area.

I think its fair to pay a fee, but maybe lower the fee rather than raise it and get rid of the red tape that soaks up much of the money.

P.S. I have to subscribe to a 3rd party service to get BBC Prime (European BBC service) and that's €65 per month, otherwise 400 quid each year if bought direct from Beeb. So all in all, you chaps are getting a relatively good deal.....
