Quite possibly the most obscure question ever, but it's something I really fancy doing. Going over the few free Swedish language courses I've found on the internet however, make it out to be a hell of an undertaking, so has anyone here managed it or am I best off trying to find a night course in it and learn 'properly'?

:)

I would've thought that after watching all that Swedish porn, you'd be an expert. Then again, I suppose Ooooh agghh is the same in any language.

Hey!!! this hasn't got anything to do with porn!!

I want my vocabulary to stretch to more than "Do you have that one where she was bent over the couch?"

I've always liked the country etc and I do want to go over there at some point. Yes, I know they mostly speak English anyway, but I was going to avoid the touristy parts and as such I'd have to have some grasp of the language. Plus, it is quite easy to talk to Danes and Norwegians that way too (very similar languages)

Go for it.I speak and write Swedish fluently but that comes from the fact that we have two mothers tongue here. Anyhow, make sure that the teacher is Swedish, other way you won´t ever learn to pronouse the words properly. Good luck anyways!

Nah, Saab is an acronym and Volvo is Latin (means "I roll"...

If you're going to Sweden then you will never regret it. My brother has retired early and emigrated over there, and settled in vastervic (wife is swedish).

I would say it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, no crime as such, people are genuinely nice, well, not much more to say.

Swedish - is a bugger to learn though I will eventually follow his lead and end up over there.

Maybe that's what happens when you don't partake in wars, embrace socialism, oh, and have a country over twice the size of the UK occupied by only 10m people (nearly all of whom work) .

When I went to Sweden & Norway, I practised "Snakker de Engelsk?"... on the basis that if they said "nej" I'd find someone else who did

I've always wanted to go over there - primarily as a holiday but the country has always fascinated me, as has Norway for the simple reason of the fjords

I must admit, the pronunciation guides on the net are a bit useless, so I think I'll find out if I can get on a local swedish language course.
