Haven't watched a single TV advert since I got TiVO a few years back. Best thing since...well, ever quite frankly.

Actually I tell a lie. I wanted to know what all the fuss about this crazy frog thing was so I actively went looking for it. Blimey there's a lot of crap on when you can't fast forward anything.

Was mentioned on another thread, but the Coldsore Windows (or whatever it is) one with the shouting northern bloke.

M&S ones with the smug sounding posh woman talking about food.

Ambulance chasers (all of them).

Loans companies with 'testimonial' interviews.

Cosmetics ads with pseudo-scientific claptrap.

Pet hate: "... now only 249" 249 what? monkeys? shekels? hens teeth?

The thing that really t's me off about it is that nowadays on SKY the adverts are louder than the programs. Having to notch down the sound every 10 minutes and then up again 3 minutes later is giving me repetitive strain injury.

Perhaps I should get out more....

Oh dear, sorry about this. The adverts aren't louder as such....

I had a big row with a sound engineer friend, who told me it's actually signal compression and squashing the dynamic range. If you look at decibel levels, they're generally no different to the programme they break up. What sound engineers do is squash the dynamic range of the sound (the difference between the lowest and highest sounds in the ad) and bump up the volume on the lower range sounds. So you get programmes with a large range between low and high volume, and the ads have a much smaller range where the lower level sounds are bumped up to match the higher level.

My response of "if it sounds louder, then it is louder" was met with some more gobbledegook.

I've sort of said this in another thread, but the fg skin care and shampoo adverts with their phoney science drive me nuts.

If I hear any more about added "Bullshittium" and "Bolloxomide" I may lose the will...

"I've had a crap day at work, can I get a better job?"
"I C Yes you can...blah blah..."
"Can I start now?"
"I C Yes you can...blah blah..."

I think they manage to squeeze "I C Yes You Bloody Can" about 8 or 10 times into that advert. It's got to be the one that makes my blood boil more than any others at the moment!

Has anyone ever had a job from these people?

Is it that good? It managed to filter out all the adverts - does it ever get it a bit wrong just out of interest? Looking to get one.

Cheers (sorry for the minor thread hi-jack)

I absolutely hate the silly bint, I cant go to M&S anymore I hate it so much. Still, at least I now understand how it is that a man can be bought to punch a woman.
