UK slips further down league table
Discussion
The UK has slipped further down the league table for competitiveness, compiled by the World Economic Forum. It has fallen another 2 places to 13th in the world rankings. Since Labour’s election in 1997 it has fallen from 4th to 13th.
The World economic forum considers a variety of factors when calculating competitiveness from the tax burden and the impact of regulation to the quality of public services.

I'm glad actually. Now there is some tangible evidence that these wits are ruining our country.
I'd agree with that if there was another party who looked ready, willing, able and electable to turn things round, therefore able to benefit from this evidence, but as it is we just get the negatives of falling behind and no positives.

Don't labour keep spouting how they've improved the economy and that they're the only party which can keep doing so? I wonder what spin they'll put on this.
They will just hope that no-one notices, the league table was released on Wedenesday, and you can see how much attention it got in the media.

Well yes but they would wouldn't they, fair enough it's their job as a political party.
What really p*sses me off is the complete failure of the media to challenge or in anyway question what New Labour says.

It would be a mistake to say that the media does not oppose Labour, after all from time to time they do.
What would be true to say is that the various media organisations have their own agenda, and report news or indeed set the news agenda according to that agenda.
To take the example of the broadcast media, such as BBC and Channel 4 news, they often get stuck into the government, for instance over Iraq, when it suits their purpose.
This particular item of news, that there is an economic price to pay for all the tax rises and constraints on those beastly businesses, which they have been calling for, definitely does not suit their agenda.

Right feeling, wrong target. The media just report what people are interested in. It is the opposition party who should be calling the government to account on things like this. As far as I can see, the tories are completely ineffective at this and have no political presence at all; they do not currently look like a credible political party.

The shadow chancellor issued a statement condemning Britain's slip down the league table due to Labour's policies, did you know that?, if not what was the reason you did not know?, perhaps because it was not reported.
