Guys n Galz,

I know only too well that this should be posted in Computing, but I need some seriously urgent help ....

I've got to dig someone out of a MASSIVE hole ... right now (so much for an early night).

He's got an MS Publisher page (.pub), which is (or will be a web page).

I don't have MS Publisher, but he sent me the file anyway. He also exported it to HMTL, but it's missing all the graphics .....

So question is ....

Are all the graphics self-contained within the .pub file?

If so, is there someone here who can convert the .pub file into something useful that I can use?

As I say - I've got the .htm file he exported to, but it has no images.

Many many thanks in advance,

K

Open up the HTML using Notepad. You should find some tags like < img src=xxxxxxx.jpg >

xxxxxx.jpg is the filename of the graphics that are missing. They are unlikely to be embedded within the publisher file format, they would normally be linked, so that the graphics can be updated without having to re-import. Suspect your friend will have to look for those graphics files on his PC.

Docevi1 - Mail sent.

Miniman - Thanks for the info. Part of the problem is that the filenames are pretty peculiar. I've edited the html file and renamed some of the files he's sent me - but it's still not working. I have to confess that the coding of the page is very very stange - never seen so much garbage coding in my life!

All file images are .gif - most of which are filenames image001, etc, etc. However, renaming a file to image001 and keeping the correct file structure is not working and I'm dammned if I can work out why.

I'm pretty au-fait with html (I code all my stuff the hard way - by hand) - but this is just wierd

Thanks again,

K

it's not doing it correctly because it's Publisher trying to write HTML. Frontpage is pretty bad at it, but any of the Office Suite is just truly terrible.

Bump, as I can't open the file - it's too late a version.

I had a similar problem a while back. I might be wrong, but I think you are pretty screwed if you don't have Publisher.

I now have Publisher installed. And it is pretty good for an MS product - definitley one of their best IMO.

As Stefan mentions, the horrible HTML is a Microsoft product trait. It's trying to write everything out as a style, with a huge great embedded stylesheet at the top of the document.

Feel free to send me the HTML and / or .PUB files to james at minispecial.com and I'll take a look.

All sorted now - thank you all very much for your help.

And a big thanks to Docevi1 who came up trumps (after a few Windows BSODs).

Thanks again,

K

Microsoft Publisher is an evil piece of software.
