Ive always wondered how long it takes an eel to die, when you swallow it live. I dont eat seafood personally, defo not life catches  but many cultures consider it a delicacy.

It's amazing what some cultures consider delicacies that we find revolting, and vice versa.

I remember hearing years ago at uni (whether it's true or not, I can't verify) that there's a tribe in the Amazon jungle that eat live spiders as delicacies, but find the concept of eating eggs (ie: the unborn) unthinkable. Yet we think nothing of it and fry them, scramble them, etc... eggs..not spiders

Those are hardly weird foods, I used to eat those sorts of things all the time.

Also an egg is not really the 'unborn' more like a chickens period I still eat them anyway.

wheres the really gross stuff like monkey and bat heads, various animal testicles, sheep brains and so on?

Anyone following the Chinese food thread yesterday - Balot (or balut) is a Phillipino delicacy which is a partially incubated duck's egg. ie, an egg with a chick inside. Ick.

Had calves brains fritters when I was a lad. Parents didn't tell us what it was until after we had seconds.

It was actually very nice in a light tomato sauce.

Ate dog and lamb's brains in Hungary. The dog was a bit chewy on account of being quite old. The brains were rather tasty though.

Eels. I'd never eat my elders. Unless I won a red letter days canibal excursion.

I'm a very fussy eater, but stupid am usually the first to step up and try something...

When on holiday in Trinidad, did a tour of a park and the guide stuffed a twig in a termite mound... Ate a stick of live termites.

Before anyone asked - they tated just like carrots... and I fing hate carrots!

Odd having the little fella moving around in my mouth... Podie - nob gag required isle 1.

Cheers,

JC
