Behold The New Wave of British Heavy Busybodism...

Just look at her: contemplating the vile injustices wrought by the insurgency of the marrow fat pea, the plunder wrought by that last packet of late 70's 'Fangs' or 'Bones;' that overpreened air of self satisfied smuggismo that all centre-left, quangular Question Time panelists seem to possess.
I despise these weeners, truly, deeply loathe their interfering irrelevance.
How dare they assault the tradition of the tuck shop, these awful, over educated ticks?
The Schools Meals Review Panel? :shout: You f@cking pointless imbeciles!
Allowing the little bastards a few rounds of Chewit or something like is hardly the problem: they need a damn good battering round the sports field, thrashed to the point of puking and then smacked across the head by some outrageous bastard of a bullying games master, all rounded orf with a bit of sparring bewtween the more rebellious individuals to cement that now alien mindset of non-shortarsism.
But not if Ms Affirmitive Action on High Heels has anything to do with it, oh no.
And why? What's this all about anyway? Some jumped up mockney punk who's a bit handy with a cheese grater but can't talk properly, how delightfully pukka - noticed by some vacant Islingtonite twiddling a Biro in some crevice of Cherie's Socially Indignant Lifetyle Awareness Agency - given free reign to poncificate over the state sponsored demise of glorious, British lard?
An absolute scandal. To quote Cyrano de Bergerac, "She can sodding well fertilise off!"
:banghead: Dreadful, woeful, patronising bleeders!

So I take it, Lord Der, that your opinion of this individual hasn't been fully formed
The only problem I have with your posts are that they often herald the arrival of another nail in the coffin for common sense and decency
They are, however, a cracking good read
Your humble servant
etc

Saw that spiteful bint Kelly on the news this morning claiming that not giving children processed meat was "common sense", in that patronising tone that she's mastered.
If it was that common sense, why were they fed it in the first place. Or is it just that you've been embarassed into the whole thing by Mockney Boy? Hmmmm?

on a practical note, this is just pure spin: kids think ' no chips at school today, I'll away down the chippy then'.
absolutely pointless exercise. If they, the 'government', were actually bothered, actually concerned about the health of the “public” they'd educate them, tell them how to move about, how to work, why shoving lard down your neck isn't good for you.
Of course why do that when you can pander to the lowest common denominator, link it to a TV show AND appear to be caring (smug)?
Shower of sh*te.
Commence the revolution...........

Seems sad that its taken a national expose to get parents to think about what the school are feeding their children.
So you give them a healthy meal at lunchtime and they go home to turkey twizzlers and beans.
This is not a problem the government should have to solve and certaintly not by pledging a piffling sum.

Bang on the money.
Out of 3 meals, only one of them is administered by the school, and that's only 5 days out of the week. But of course, its easier to throw our taxes at yet another puss ridden boil on the face of public services....
LOL "The school meals review panel" will soon need its own "Inspectorate" which will of course oversee the work of "inspectors". This in itself though will not guarantee full compliance, so the inspectorate will need to be verified by a panel of standards evaluation and assassment experts. All of this will need to be paid for out of the 60p a day. The end result will definately not be pukka.
In fairness to the Special Needs chef he just said "this is shit" "eat this its called food" If we had Bush in charge he would have announced Jamification and given him 2 staff and $300 with the instruction "Get the god damn cooks to make proper food or fire their asses, your in charge" Blair probably said similar but by the time the worlds finest civil service got their hands on it a team of people who were bullied a lot at school had already been assembled due to perfect anticipation on the part of senior civil servant sir knob fondler. By now performance indicators will be in place and a selection of experts on the performance indicators will have been assembled, they will obviously know nothing about food. A great deal of reports will be written using the language of the disappointed and eventually one school somewhere will say "
it" and forget cooking but build a bicycle in their spare time. This will be hailed as a breakthrough and become the standard for the future. Within weeks a set of standards for school food preparation will be written and the NVQ will be approved. It will take the first candidate 4 years to get their certificate but after that every assessor will just copy their portfolio and the process will take half an hour. All school cook will be NVQ accredited by 2010 and the next review will be due 2050 when the average life expectancy will have dropped.
If the government does it its rubbish

I usually agree with your erudite posts DeRestrictor, but not this time.
I thing having proper school meals for children is one vital factor in improving their concentration and behaviour at school.
Me too! However I feel this appointment is nothing more than a sticking plaster over a running sore, garnish for the chattering classes.
Privatisation has its place, school meals isn't one of them.

Crap. The only way you will ever sort out schools, let alone the meals is to privatise them. Public sector funding is a great way to solve technical problems and provide things like nuclear energy and military might because its terms of reference can be set apart from the primary goals of the private sector. Unless there are good reasons to publicly fund an activity then privatise it cos it will cost less and deliver better quality.

They are privatised, and were privatised years ago. Thats why they push the cheapest fat and sugar laden shite on the poor
witted chavspring who dont know any better. No they are still contracted to the LEA not the school. If the Head teacher could fire them for producing crap food then the food would improve. The contractual situation is complex and involves all sorts of transfer of public sector employment conditions which basically means you can't fire the cook. Trust me I worked with this lot for 25 years and it needs a bomb up it to sort it and the answer is not to bring it under the public sector umberalla.

Nope. Sorry old bean, I went to a public school, with a private catering company. The food was disgusting, processed shite, which was provided at the least possible expense. The only difference was that there was a 'menu' which verbally dressed up the items.
Private companies, in this sector, probably do more harm than good, they will be interested in serving the cheapest standard of food they can get away with, so that the shareholders can profit the most. Institutions like schools require a bit of altruism and are not places which lend themselves well to market forces.

Absolute tripe. If you want something pared to the bone, delivered with regard to bottom line instead of effectiveness, then privatise. If you want all corners cut, no interest in anything beyond profit, then privatise.

That is something on which we agree, the solution to many problems with schools (including school meals) is to transfer all power and funding to the individual schools and scrap those parasites the LEA.
