Pet hate: TV progs repeating themselves
Discussion
Why, in the name of all that's holy, does every program on tv repeat and recap what's happened before the ad break? :banghead:
:shout: I can remember what you said 10 minutes ago!
It used to be only a few DIY programs, obviously designed for the hard of thinking, but now it's endemic. The latest program to be ruined, is the Hip Hop nights. It's so frikkin' annoying I had to switch off.
Recap what happened last week? Fair enough, but just because that dullard you interviewed about their viewing habits last week complained that they couldn't remember what happened at the beginning of The Top 100 TV ads by the time 89 had come around, please don't assume that we've all got 7 second memories.
[/rant]
And breathe.... :hippy:

Worse than that - the programmes that tell you what is GOING to happen in this episode. I`m a big fan of "American Hot Rod" (It`s cars, not a porn show), and every episode they tell you what has happened and then what to expect - spoils it for me.
So youi can just watch the first minute or so of every second episode, and not miss a thing? Superb efficiency saving

It's just so frustrating when a good-looking doc is reduced to about 5 mins of actual content. I could almost understand them having to try and fill "How clean is your house?" or "You are what you eat"...
How on earth "You're a fat, lazy, disgusting slob." can be stretched out to 30 mins of TV astounds me.

I'm sure that there is an automated script producing machine in use at the BBC at the moment.
Recently there has been a spate of programs that have a very similar style of presenting. They invariably start with something like "Welcome to <insert title>. The program that <inane description of contents>."
These include To Buy or Not to Buy, Beat the Burgler, Mirror Signal Manoeuvre et al.
They are invariably 'reality' style programs and mind numbingly dull.

Its purely because it is such inane programming, that it goes in one ear, and out of the other... If you watch it, you will probably need reminding what it is that you have been watching the last 15 minutes.
Yeah, and you've just been distracted by the more edifying, clever adverts.

or Scrapheap Challenge who show you the machines the teams build in the next episode.
Something similar increasingly happens in news programmes.
Newscaster: A 32-year-old man arrested last week for public order offences appeared today at the Old Bailey. Mike Cable reports.
Reporter: Yes, here at the Old Bailey the 32-year-old man, who was arrested last week for public order offences, has appeared...
Then at the end of the programme they 'round up all the headlines today'. Why? I heard you the first time. And the second time...

Sky Plus is the answer to your woes. I don't watch a great deal of TV, buy now routinely either record it or pause at the start and go do something else for 10 minutes. Come back and you can skip all that stuff and the ad breaks.
'Lost' is a classic example - billed to start @ 10pm, finishes at 11:05pm. I start watching at 10:20 and have caught up by 11 when it finishes early!
What does bug me is programs like 'Lost' that are clearly American and the scenes are scheduled for the ad breaks, so the scene ends, screen blanks momentarily then starts again with no adverts in the UK. Then halfway through the next scene, usually mid sentence, they cut it

It annoys the cack out of me too, luckily I try to avoid all TV like the plague.
However I suspect they know that during the ad breaks everyone goes surfing the channels so they do the recap thing in case they can grab your attention and get you to watch the rest of their show instead of the competition's offerings.
