This is probably old news but I've been away. What happened? The BBC website says he's been sent to Coventry.. sorry it says "Jon Gaunt has been asked to be the new breakfast show presenter for BBC Coventry and Warwickshire when the station re-launches in September. Coventry is Jon's home town and he has accepted the offer."

Did he have a falling out with BBC London?

On his last day, he said that he had been told by the BBC Radio London Management that he didn't fit in with their long term plans - so he took the position at BBC Coventry.

You can still listen to him on the web via www.bbc.co.uk/coventry - its still amusing.

He also said that listeners should 'watch this space' implying he might come back for a commercial channel ?

I am amazed that BBC London took this stance, he may have been controversial but he had a large following - one gets the feeling he upset one too many politicians and pressure was applied....

His replacement is hopeless and the only person worth listening to on that station now is Robert Elms

I have to agree with Egbert, Elmsie is the only one worth listening to. I enjoyed listening to Gaunt, especially if he was in a really pugnacious mood.
I'm now listening to Terry Wogan in the mornings when I take my daughter to school.
My Mum listened to Terry Wogan on the odd occasion when she to Me to school.
Arrrrrrgh...........................

BBC London was great when it was Danny Baker, Jon Gaunt, Robert Elms.
Of the new guard I quite like Eddie Nestor and Vanessa Feltz but only in small doses.

Jon Gaunt's braodcast on the day of the London bombings was one of the best bits of broadcasting I've heard. He started the programme saying "Well. We only have one topic today: the Olympics", but he sussed pretty quickly that there was more to the "power surge" than the party line and did a great ringmaster job of getting in breaking news.

Thanks for the coventry link I'll listen to it until he gets something National.
