Ok, errm, bear with me here.

My Mothers Donkey had to be put down a few weeks ago, and her horse is looking really miserable. She wants to get another one, but the Donkey Sancturys want huge amounts of money (and you don't even own the Donkey, its loaned to you)

Any idea where to get (and i can't believe I'm saying this) Cheap Donkey?

Get the horse a sheep to keep it company instead, sheep are cheaper and have more uses.

Agree... you could always get a pair of ears-on-an-alice-band and some goofy-donkey-teeth dentures for the sheep if the horse gets suspicious.

Go and find a pikey enclave, should be one in a beauty spot near you. That will sort it.

Otherwise any horse trading affair like Stow Fair, that should score you good donkey.

I love donkeys, they're great

How far are you from a beach? .. obvious place to go for old donkeys looking for a place to live out the rest of their years away from excited kids n ice-cream overdoses.

Vixpy1,

You could try: The Sussex Horse Rescue Centre in Uckfield, East Sussex (horses, ponies and donkeys).

Mrs Pauline Grant - 01825 762010.

Although some are not suitable for re-homing and will remain in care for life. If she can't help you, then perhaps she can refer you on to somebody who can assist.

Some very pitiful sights, though. But they're nursed back to full health. My friend regularly buys good quality ponies from there for her riding stable.

Sorry to hear of your Mothers sad news. A few years ago, I had to have my pet donkey put down too

I have heard that Llamas make very good companions and are probably easier to purchase than a donkey.

Donkeys used to be cheap as chips, but now seem fairly rare and pricey - you can try a local horse/cattle market (I know there is one in Reading) and evey so often a donkey will come in for sale, usually go for a few hundred quid. www.TSAuction.co.uk/

The Donkey Breed Society is a good place to start, they may have info on where to get one.

Good Luck!
