One in 10 Muslim students would not go to the police if they found out that an Islamist group was planning a bomb attack according to a survey by the Federation of Student Islamic Societies.
Not sure I would either. I think that says more about the police than the Muslims.

Or to put it another way, 9 out of 10 muslim students would go to the police if they uncovered a terrorist plot.....
I'm a little more concerned about the 10% who wouldn't
Because that marks them as sympathises, not necessarily prepared to carry out acts of terror themselves, but perhaps ready to offer support and shelter to those who do.

isnt that as bad as being a terrorist?
if you are prepared to harbour a terrorist that makes you an acomplice in my book

To be honest, I find the publicising of this pointless statistic devisive at the very very best.
How many people in this Federation?
100 easily led folk I suspect.
Utter tripe.
We don't know how this survey was prepared, so you are right to be suspicious.
But they are right to publicise it, because it shows the scale of the problem that has to be overcome.

Just out of interest, why wouldnt you inform the Police if you were aware of a terrorist bomb plot ?
Because you would be far better calling the newsdesk of the Sun or the Daily mail. Frankly the police in my experience have no understanding of the commercial pottential of a situation so are likely to gag you. If I was lucky enough to discover a terrorist cell I would be damn sure to cash in on the publicity and score a few points off the greens on the back of it.

The problem that this survey proposes is that muslim students and perhaps by implication muslims as a religious group are a wall of silence, like the east end in the 60's
That is a farcical suggestion, the opposite of which could be seen in the days following 7th July.
Ergo, its cobblers from start to finish.
To suggest that we are ever going to defeat terrorism is equally laughable.

I would wager that there are few on here who know better people to tell than either the police or the press which would get a far swifter and possibly more appropriate reaction...

No, it creates the illusion of a problem that probably doesnt exist.
Then who were those bombers blowing themselves up on the underground, figmants of our imagination?.
Unless we understand the problem we cannot tackle the problem.
In reality it will take the terrorists years to kill even a few hundred people. If they escallated their activity to the extent where large numbers of people were at risk then the British ability to be the most nasty violent hand to hand fighters on the planet would emerge and within a few days there would be no muslims in Britain. The majority of the muslim population who are reasonable and fair minded would see that coming and will no doubt shop their own kind if needed. (Consider if I were ever elected would you shop a lentilist if one lived next door?
) This is a small problem that is no worse than the animal rights terrorist threat. The reason it catches such a large ammount of media attention is because deep down this is still a predominantly white racist society. JagLover said:

No it doesn't. It says they don't necessarily trust the police.
Who did this society poll, for their opinions? How many people did they poll? All these guestions are relevant, but one random poll isn't particularly relevant, unless you want to create a sensationalist headline.
Edited to add, a poorly conceived study such as this does, in NO way give any useful information about a potential problem in any community, since the sample is undoubtedly biased. You are filling in the blanks here, and creating more of a problem than may actually exist.

The survey of was of 466 students in higher and further education I am not sure how it was carried out.
The organisation conducting the survey was
FOSIS (est. 1962) is the umbrella organisation of student groups in colleges and universities throughout the UK and Ireland, representing over 90,000 Muslim students.
