I`m in Brazil and the lingerie shops here sell very nice, high quality underwear at ridiculous prices. I have a very good female friend (nothing more, honest) who I know would appreciate it.

Is it bad form to phone her for her sizes? Or would it be best to guess and suprise her.

I`d appreciate it if Nervy and Vixpy could hold fire for a couple of hours!

If she's a good friend, call up for a chat, shoot the shit, and slide the question in sideways, maverick style.

A suprise is a good thing. Ahhhh, what the hell... buy a size 22XXL, the look on her face will make it worth while

Does she have another (female) friend that you can ring to find out sizes on your behalf?

Then you get correct + surprised in one easy move.

Wot he said. You'd want to bbe unluckey to go wrong with it. But don't forget, that despite whats said here, the rumour mill at home will kick straight into top gear. Choose the friend as carefully as the present .

Edit: What were you doing in lingerie shops in the first place?

[vizreference] Just make sure you don't buy a set of industrial-rated granny pants for your mum at the same time and then get the parcels mixed up... [/vizreference]

Personally speaking, I would much rather be asked than to be given something that was either too small (usless but flattering) or too big (useless but insulting).

Can't you compare her size with one of the women in the shop?

I'd ask, it would still be a surprise to her as she wont know what it looks like until you present it.
Womens bra size has to be very accurate to be comfy. Knickers are OK one size up or down.

It's a dangerous line to tread, women can be so fickle

The best way round this is to buy 2 sets and swap the labels over. That way she thinks you think she's smaller, but they still fit (Just don't get the sets confused so not only does she think you reckon she's fat, but the "size 18" you've bought don't fit)

I would rather be asked especially considering your buying them in brazil and she cant exactly take them back with great ease.

Unless you know exactly what style/colour etc she likes as well as the correct sizes you need to be phoning her, either way could be a

but I am sure she would rather you bought her stuff she would like and be comfortable in than have you waste your money.....

I'd go for ringing her but anyway consider buying items that don't need to fit too well. Even if you know the correct size buying a bra is a bit hit and miss, all makes/sizes are different. How about buying a nice camisole (sp?) top and knickers that you can just buy in say a 12 (do ask though!) and the chances of it fitting are better.

Happy shopping! (BTW we know that "your friend" is just a pretence to give you the opportunity to hang out in knicker shops!! )
