Just been announced that Simon Wiesenthal (Holocaust survivor who spent rest of life hunting down Nazi war criminals) died today in Vienna hospital - at age 96.

(I thought he died ages ago though...)

Anyway - man of great courage to have survived the camps und then worked tirelessly to bring evil men to account. Still wondered about the motivation at times though - as time passes by ...understandable revenge or justice?

Wisenthal was, I believe, motivated by both justice and revenge - and quite rightly so IMO.

The attrocities commited by the Germans and Nazi's were so abhorrent that there should never be any respite or sanctuary for any of them as long as they live.

Down to Wiesenthal that some of those lowest life form monsters were caught und dealt in 50s/60s. Ist a website which may be of interest to some for further reading on his work und life.

over 1100 war criminals were tracked down and brought to justice, despite the death threats and bombing of his house/family.

He said it was the fact these people couldn't settle down knowing he was after thaem that might stop it happening again. Let's hope so but Bosnia and Rwnada suggest not.

Ditto.

Much of his work was highly commendable.
