I saw the posting about thw worst pain you have experienced and felt a degree of irony as I spent some time in the Emergency Room last night.

I was working in the garage trying to dismantle some heavy duty shelving while my wife was inside the house. In the course of the work my finger got trapped between a sheet of 4'x8'x5/8" chipboard being pushed by it's own weight towards my 4th & 5th fingers resting against a very stout piece of 2"x4" wood. As the weight of the wood was far too much to lift wth one hand and I couldn't wiggle the fingers out after about 5 or so minutes I had to shout for help. Fortunately Kathy heard me, found the garage door opener, opened the garage and lifted the wood.

My 5th finger in particular was quite crushed, about half the normal thickness and white, totally white, as the circulation had been cut off. She took me to hospital, and while I was being driven I was sucking on the fingers to try to get some heat and circulation into them.

Some x-rays later and I found out that I just have bruised bones, and that though there is a lot of swelling and pain, it should subside within 3 or so months.

I was lucky, exceptionally lucky. I just would like to urge everybody who works on their cars on their own to keep their cellphone in their pocket in case of an emergency, no matter how careful you think you are sometimes the worst happens. Prepare for it.....
