I'm off to Munich for 3 days of debauchery at Oktoberfest next week. Anyone ever been? Got any useful tips or amusing stories?

Cheers

I'm terribly jealous, I went there a few years back and it was awesome! From what I can remember:

- Drinking the afternoon away, then leaving the 'Fest and going to a good restaurant made for a really nice day without having to run a gauntlet of puking foreigners at the end of the night
- The drinking songs are dead easy
- Girls in dirndl (the traditional Bavarian dress) are awesomely sexy
- Boys in lederhosen may look like they're dressed up as little boys, but it might not be a good idea to mention this to them. Particularly if you've been ogling their girlfriend in sexy dirndl
- There was a nightclub near the Englischer Garten called P1 (P Einz) that was excellent fun.
- Head out of town for lunch, there's a beer garden 10 minutes north (I think) that serves amazing sausages. Have more beer

Be prepared to be scared by the German bargirls. They can carry about a dozen jugs of beer... most brits struggle to pick up 4 at a time

Seriously... the German beer is awesome. Very strong and its an incredibly joyful time. Have fun!

Went a couple of years back while I was working out there - absolute carnage but something refreshingly honest about it.

Last time I was there, way back in 1976, I was sick under the table!! Not nice.

Good beer though, and strong. Lowenbrau is a great lager, or was in those days.

Might pay you to take in the Hofbrauhaus while there?

dont forget to visit the Fun Fair on at the time...

you'll be amazed - 2 full coasters that'll put most UK theme park coasters to shame - a Nemesis style inverter, and a 5 looping coaster - olympia looping - both can be packed into lorries and set up at the next fair.

remember this is german engineering and efficency - not a bunch of pikies down your local car park...

its not like they are thrown up over night - setting these coasters take about 2 weeks to build and test, but less than a week to take down.

they have a better accident record than the UK's theme parks.

"No matter how hard you try, you simply can't prepare yourself for your first visit to a German fair. However high your expectations, I defy anyone not to spend their entire visit uttering the words "How can that thing travel?" every thirty seconds or so. Even when you should be used to it, there are some rides that retain this sense of mystique and wonder, and none more so than Eurostar. This epic tangle of dark purple track would be a jaw-dropping sight at any theme park, but the very idea that the whole thing is temporary simply catapults the ride over the edge of believability. As if that weren't enough, it also just happens to be one of the most frantic, intense, and exhilarating coasters you could ever wish to ride."

Top tip - A night club is not the same as we would know it in the uk. Instead of a choice of beers and spirits tThe menu consisted of blondes, brunettes and gingers...

I only fancied a pint
