Just a reminder that the Bathurst 1000 is on 8th of October, I assume those PHers not interested in the prissiness of the F1 race will be watching (Sort of a low-tech, southern hemisphere version of Le Mans but with a lot more bumping/scraping/beer/interesting stuff).

Also I have heard that after the success of racing V8 Supercars in China they have signed a 5 year deal to race in Bahrain.

Is it being broadcast live in the UK?

As far as I know it should be LIVE on MOTORS TV.

It better be as I have got my brother ready to record it for me.

Probably get edited highlights on Channel 5 a couple of weeks after the event.

Time for some real touring cars, not the lax power things we get here.

I’m not actually sure how powerful those V8 engines are, IRRC they only make between 5-600hp (they have to be quite close to the stock engine specifications). Mind you I suppose it’s quite a bit more than a BTCC car.

Any idea on who the winner will be?

they make just over 600hp now (620hp is listed for the Falcon), which is frankly a lot more than they should, even the Americans are suprised at how much power is being eeked out of them. They are based on stock 5.0L V8s which aren't even used by falcadores anymore, they have to be imported from the USA.

Are you sure? “FPV 32 valve, quad cam Boss 290 V8 engine, the only V8 engine to be developed and built in Australia.” - www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=5.498

www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/8_10_for1.htm - Has some more stuff on how and where the vehicles are built.

More than enough power to get them to well over 200mph. They had to put a kink into the Conrod Straight, a few years ago now, to slow them down.

Remember seeing Dick Johnson have a rear tyre blow out on the Conrod Straight, in a Siera Cosworth, and it was pure luck he did not hit the concrete wall.

As to who will win, I am not really bothered. I just like watching real touring cars, V8, rear wheel drive and real manual gearboxes, on the greatest road course in the world and some of the best TV coverage.

Jeez, I really miss watching V8 Supercars on Motors TV. Is Marcos Ambrose still sweeping all before him?

The only thing better are the V8 Brutes...

Cheers

Seems as though the answer to my initial question was 'yes'
