i find direct line by far the cheapest, haven't had to claim yet though, but if my experience with a car claim is anything to go by, theyu will be pretty good

Not sure if they are the cheapest but their claim handling is spot on. I flooded my house a couple of years ago and they sorted the whole thing out with no problems.

I've just switched to Rias - cheapest by miles - but you have to be over 50 ...

Marks and Spencer seem to be getting good reviews.

Meant to be fairly competitive for car insurance also.

Direct Line are brilliant in price and claims.
My Laptop broke recently while under warranty. Toshiba refused to repair it (said it was damaged because a tiny pin had snapped). Direct Line sent me a new one within 2 days without so much as a howsyerfather.
Every tiny thing you expect to be a problem never is and importantly you can always talk to someone within a few seconds.
I cannot praise them highly enough after other insurance encounters

Natwest got me the cheapest quote. I get a discount for being a premier customer, mind you.
