Norway in contrast have kept all theirs. They have a war chest of something ridiculous like £103bn iirc.

The North Sea Oil riches were squandered by the Conservative Governments of the 1980's on inefficiency and tax cuts to buy elections.

I've had many great holidays, a couple of reasonable cars, some property and a bit of a beer gut out of it.

Many thanks to petrol buyers everywhere...

Or rather they used the North sea Oil revenues to carry out a much needed restructuring of the British economy.

For a country that makes nothing, that increases the value of nothing we do OK. North Sea oil among others has put money in everyone's pockets. If you do the sums many people earn more than the value they create. That's not sustainable unless there's a 'cash cow' funding things, enter North Sea oil revenue.

Well said tvrbob!

Big Martin - no conceit intended, merely answering a rather pointless question to which the answer should be obvious. Would this be the wrong time to mention I've got the diver's watch too?

Anyway, North Sea oil in as serious decline as many would like you to believe. It will continue to bring in revenue, investment and employment to the UK from abroad for a long time yet.

Or in other words the worst prime minister we ever had took revenge on the teachers for getting her calle milk snatcher and the miners for kicking out tuff Teds really crappy government in 1973. The much needed restructuring never happened she just closed it all to fund tax cuts and a mini boom in the sarf. She has yet to be tortured and burned for her crimes against humanity.

Nonners, do watchout for a programme on the History channel called: "The Mayfair Set", it opened my eyes tonight, sure to be repeated soon!........(P.S. have a tape running). I have to say, it changed my view of James Goldsmith.

Saw a bit of it actually the theme seemed to be that regular politicians are sans skills to manage a country. This seems to be consistant with the empiracle observations, regardless of political colour.

It all sounds like a coming global rightwing fascist dark age to me Nonners. Governments world wide are no longer in control of their countries. The "global mafia" have taken over, forcing nations to accept agreements through economic means.

Funny thing was, I watched a couple of the "South Park" series tonight. One of which was an episode where people from the future had travelled back in time to find work and were prepared to work for very little. Of course they took all the jobs...........

"Mr Pissed Off White Trash Redneck" was NOT amused.... But a very apt warning nonetheless............
