Anticipating the onslaught of global warming, Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom devises plans to keep his front line officers cool on the job......

I dont know where the Police buy their cars, but £30K for a 2 litre Mondeo? Or is that journalistic licence, a £14K Mondeo with £16K's worth of kit that is undamaged.

apparently they had to take the roof off the patrol car as the officers in charge had placed a road traffic accident victim in the back seat for safety, who then complained of back pain when the paramedics arrived and it was too risky to move her. does it make me a bad person that i really wish they'd placed her under their hats? really? good.

i would also really love to issue the traffic police a ticket for owning a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition. bitter, me? never.

hilarious. Glad to see my taxes are being spent so carefully. What an utter disgrace.

Just what I was thinking.

If they have any sense they'll strip it down for spares - can't be the only Mondeo of that age and spec in the fleet, I would imagine.

There was something similar in Bristol years ago. Some lad gave a lift to someone who had been in an accident, when he got to A&E the guy complained of back pain and they decided to cut the roof off his car to get the guy out. The Bristol Evening Post got wind of it and they got the lad a replacement car from some garage. IIRC his original car was a £500 Polo but i've no idea what he was given as a replacement.

So if it was your wife/daughter in the back with back pain and potentially a broken back. You'd be happy for them to bend and pull etc to get her out. Possibly paralysing her in the process. Or would you prefer they cut the top off the car?

I dont have a wife or daughter so its a no-brainer.

Seriously though, if everytime someone complained of back pain they cut the roof off we'd all be doing tampax adverts.

She got in the back of the car ok in the first place.

Also why was she put in the back - for safety? Sounds hooky to me.
