I'm after a graphics tablet, got my eye on a nice Wacom Intuos3 A4 tablet.

Over here to buy one is about £340 quid. In the USA include shipping it is about £240.

My question is..... if I do get asked to pay import duty, how much is it likely to be?? Would I still be better off ordering one from the US?

Cheers

Dan :)

Try getting it from Ebay, some sellers will package it as a gift and therefore you pay no duty.

Not always.

There is always risk (and it's NOT a minimal risk), so be prepared to stump up if you get the tax bill.

I could be wrong on this, but I think it's the standard 17.5% (VAT) on value of the goods being shipped.

Check on the Customs & Excise website - Different items get duty charged at different rates - I can't remember the exact details but there are several different rates (0%, 5%, 17.5%)

Import duty will be around 22%, and don't forget the 'admin & handling' charge that most companies add to 'expedite your package' of about £50 and you end up at a similar price, but with your consumer rights intact incase anything goes tits-up!

If Import Duty is 22%, you'll end up paying Just over £344, plus handling fees.

Import Duty is charged on the price of the goods and delivery, and then VAT is charged on that total. And then you'll get the wonderful handling fees aswell

You should check with the customs people first though...the closest match I can find on TARIC gives it as being 0%...
